Queens University of Charlotte is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial, and results-driven leader to serve as the Executive Director of Executive Leadership Institute (ELI) in the McColl School of Business. Accredited by AACSB International, the McColl School at Queens is widely recognized for its highly effective leadership development programs and enjoys tremendous support from the Charlotte and regional business community. The School offers both undergraduate and graduate business education as well as executive leadership development.

For two decades, Queens’ Executive Leadership Institute has been delivering tailored executive education, leadership development, and coaching services to organizations in Charlotte and the surrounding region. The ELI houses established leadership programming that includes the Physician Leadership Institute (PLI), the School Executive Leadership Academy (SELA), and a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) program. The McColl School’s faculty and staff, and the impact of its programs are well known in our community.

The McColl School of Business is closely connected to the city of Charlotte and the regional business community, whose members largely constitute the School’s Board of Advisors.

Job Description

Position Profile:
The Executive Director of Leadership Programs in the McColl School of Business is responsible for envisioning, planning, and building the ELI. The position requires strong business development skills, the ability to cultivate relationships both internally and externally, demonstrated leadership in a variety of settings, and highly developed interpersonal skills. The Executive Director reports to the Dean of the McColl School of Business, who reports to the Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs. Direct reports to the Executive Director include the Director of Professional Development, the Director of the School Executive Leadership Programs and administrative staff.

Essential Duties of the Executive Director:
• Provides a clear vision and strategy for executive leadership development and executive education for the McColl School of Business.
• Leads the development and delivery of innovative approaches for program delivery of leadership programming.
• Builds a compelling brand positioning for ELI that is recognized on local, regional and national levels.
• Accountable for identifying and selecting strategic accounts, origination and negotiating ELI partnerships and tailored programs.
• Oversees the delivery and continuous improvement of high-quality, client-oriented executive education and consulting engagements.
• Cultivates a pipeline of viable clients through effective networking and leveraging MSB and Queens relationships.
• Attracts, develops, assesses, coaches, manages, and leads a world-class team of executive education, coaching, and consulting professionals.
• Collaborates with internal and external resources to develop, coordinate, and implement marketing plans designed to maintain and increase tailored client relationships and grow the portfolio of profitable client engagements.
• Is responsible for achieving revenue and margin goals and is a responsible steward of resources.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Demonstrated leadership and management abilities.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage across an organization’s value chain including marketing, business development, client-relationship management, program design, talent management, program delivery and finance/operations.
• Evidence of local business network and history of attracting and closing new business in the Charlotte market or region.
• Progressive thinking in leading practices and innovations in leadership development, adult education, and professional services.
• An energetic and entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to view obstacles as opportunities.
• Demonstrated success in developing and managing diverse teams and in championing diversity.
• Passion for the educational mission of the university.
• Exceptionally strong communication skills (verbal, written, interpersonal) and ability to quickly establish and maintain strong rapport at all levels of the University and externally.
• Demonstrated organization and planning skills (strategic and tactical); strong follow-up and follow-through skills to ensure completion of plans, goals and objectives.
• Demonstrated evidence of a flexible, energetic, creative, and results-oriented leadership style.
• Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence in a variety of settings.

Work Conditions

• Potential day and overnight travel via automobile, flight and public transportation to businesses involving contact with clients and potential clients, staff, and administrators.
• Potential travel to national conferences to represent the university.
• Willingness and ability to work during evenings and weekends to accomplish goals of the position.
• Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions, and high volume and may be stressful at times.
