Student Accounts Specialist

Job Description

Summary: A full time, non- exempt position responsible for providing oversight of student accounts and management of student centered project operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide excellent service to Queens’ students, families and community members.
  • Develop and manage a messaging center and communicate consistently to ensure students stay informed concerning various issues concerning their student accounts.
  • Resolve student account problems, issues with payments, charges or payment plans.
  • Manage student health insurance reporting, set up and messaging.
  • Act as liaison with other departments who have a vested interest in student accounts and facilitate charges as appropriate (bookstore, campus police, Health and Wellness, Athletics)
  • Reconcile collection agency reports each month and provides 360 follow-up and documentation as well as obtain Senior Director approval.
  • Manage the outreach schedule for Salt and financial literacy for students.
  • Manage collection efforts on university accounts receivable and prepare a loss prevention strategy.
  • Provide information to Senior Director of Student Accounts regarding student accounts needing additional action. As necessary, inform Senior Director of Financial Aid should a student account require further action to obtain aid, etc.
  • Develop and manage a system for direct billing for international student groups, education PO’s, etc.
  • Provide backup support to other members of the student account team as needed.

Non-Essential Duties

Other special projects and additional duties as assigned to enhance the level of service and commitment to students , their families and the university all while adhering to FERPA and other applicable regulations.

  • Proven customer service skills and enthusiasm for providing exceptional service to diverse populations including undergraduate and graduate students, parents, staff, faculty and other constituents.
  • Proven success working in a team environment and independently.
  • Attention to detail and ability to produce quality work which is audit ready.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, organization and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to follow-up and follow-through to completion.
  • Talent for multi-tasking in a fast paced environment while maintaining accuracy and timeliness on detailed operations.
  • Ability to express sensitivity to the financial concerns and stress of students and their families while following the policies and procedures of Queens University of Charlotte
  • Aptitude for working with numbers.
  • Self-motivated with pride of work reflected in outcomes.
  • Technically competent and proficient in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with Jenzabar and Cashnet &/or other university systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting and general banking and collection compliance with legal, policy and procedural standards established by Federal, State and institutional levels.
  • Experience in higher education is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Management or related field of study, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Conditions
• Work in office, online, and classroom environments, involving contact with business leaders, faculty, parents, staff, administrators, students, trustees, and vendors.
• Potential day and overnight travel via automobile, flight and public transportation to businesses involving contact with clients and potential clients, staff, and administrators.
• Potential travel to national conferences to represent the university.
• Willingness and ability to work during evenings and weekends to accomplish goals of the position.
• Work has deadlines, multiple interruptions, and high volume and may be stressful at times.
