Our client, one of the top 20 CPA firms in the region who is a growing regional full-service business consulting, accounting, auditing and tax public accounting firm, has asked us to assist in their efforts to recruit for a Bookkeeper with 5+ years experience as a bookkeeper, preferably in a CPA firm environment for their Columbia office with some travel to their Owings Mills offices.

Job Description

As a member of the Audit and Accounting team, your skills will be challenged while providing customized accounting services to high net worth individual and middle market business clients, particularly in the healthcare industry. Through the development of productive working relationships with clients and co-workers, you will gain understanding of client business operations and procedures.

The Bookkeeper will work with multiple managers to prepare and complete client assignments, which affords the opportunity to learn from staff with varying degrees of experience and expertise. Additionally, staff within the Audit and Accounting Department work closely at times with staff in the Tax Department for client engagements that span both groups.

Location : Based in Columbia, MD office

Travel: Minimal. Occasional travel to Owings Mills, Office or client local client locations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supplying outsourced Quickbooks (and other accounting system), general ledger, cash reconciliation, accounts receivable, and accounts payable functions to closely held businesses in various industries;
  • Preparing client payrolls, 1099’s, and W2’s;
  • Researching client tax issues to identify solutions;
  • Creating and/or providing work papers and appropriate documentation in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Completing sales tax returns
  • Collaborating with other department members to produce solutions for clients.

Qualifications

  • 5 + years of Bookkeeping experience, preferably in a CPA firm environment
  • A proactive mindset with proven customer-focused service
  • Excellent attention to detail as well as organizational and follow-up skills
  • Professional oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and QuickBooks skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills in relating to clients and other team members
  • ProSystem FX Tax and ProSystem FX Engagement a plus, but not required
  • Bookkeeping experience in a healthcare related field helpful, but not required
