Job Description

Refinery29 is on the hunt for a Shopping & Market Director to join our fast-paced, rapidly growing Editorial/Programming team. Our ideal candidate is a natural-born leader who has a completely unique, distinct vision and a fresh, non-formulaic take on fashion, shopping, and trends in commerce. 

She/he will have a solid sensibility for sourcing and curating the most surprising market discoveries and an innate ability to identify emerging designers, brands, and industry themes that inform the R29 Shopping content strategy. 

The Shopping & Market Director must be obsessed with the future of fashion and have an undying passion for inventive, next-generation style. Extensive knowledge of both established and emerging fashion and commerce brands is a must. 

This very key position reports directly in to our Editor-In-Chief and works closely with all Editorial department heads and company stakeholders.

Responsibilities 

Manage & Lead A Super Talented Shopping Department: Oversee a team of five, including a fashion writer, editorial assistant, fashion assistant, market editor and freelance-contributing writers; provide direction and critical feedback on the ever-evolving Shopping vision.

 

Grow/Develop A Kick-Ass Shopping Vertical: Conceive new franchise concepts; produce weekly shopping emails, work with social and marketing team on prime placement for shopping stories, test call-outs and own data/results.

 

Build Bonds: Represent Refinery29 at press previews, in the market, and host desksides and business meetings to forge strong relationships with key brands, designers, and advertisers.

 

Oversee & Produce Exceptional Shopping Content: Review all shopping posts, plan shopping schedule (daily, weekly monthly and larger long-lead franchises), pitch stories, work on 3-5 original photo shoots per month. Produce several exceptionally well-researched market-based features each month that have a point of view, are informative, and shoppable.

Meet (& Exceed!) Goals: Strive to meet and surpass monthly visits and affiliate revenue goals. Work closely with marketing, social, product and tech departments to strategically place, test, and optimize content

Qualifications

  • 6-8 years of market experience with an established digital company, online media publication or e-commerce brand
  • Great communication skills and a collaborative, group-oriented approach to work
  • Vibrant social media presence (especially Instagram and Pinterest)
