Job Description

Refinery29 is hiring a Talent Relations Director to oversee all aspects of its engagement, interaction and securing of talent for its editorial, video and branded content operations. This individual will work closely with leadership in all three departments to help secure access to a range of talent – including television and motion picture actors, musicians, athletes and authors—as well as tastemakers, personalities and influencers who have built a platform through other means (e.g. non-scripted, digital)

In this role, individual will act as an ambassador for Refinery29 to the talent rep community (i.e. publicists and managers as well as studios, networks, labels, etc.). She / he will champion and socialize Refinery29 across these talent eco-system to elevate awareness of Refinery29’s powerful story and brand—generating more and better inbound requests over time. In addition to servicing editorial / video requests, individual must also work proactively – bringing great ideas and recommendations. Over time this person’s efforts should elevate frequency and level of talent that interact with and appear on Refinery29.

This person will also help oversee casting for advertiser-led opportunities (programs that are created specifically for brands) -- including managing staff who work on casting day-day. She / he will advocate a holistic approach, creating synergies and efficiencies across the sales / branded experiences team and editorial / video—while also establishing best practices / rules-of-engagement for these types of needs. She / he will have demonstrated ability to handle commercial vs non-commercial solicitation in a seasoned, elegant and informed fashion. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Proactively build Refinery29’s relationships with leading publicists, managers and other reps in the talent eco-system —forging meaningful and trusted dialog that transcend beyond just transactions
  • Establish close alignment with individuals across editorial and video teams, fielding ideas and requests while also proactively generating recommendations and insights
  • Leverage information collected through ongoing dialog with the talent community to bring actionable intelligence to the editorial and video operation
  • Recommend and manage a comprehensive strategy for how Refinery29 engages talent
  • Establish and socialize best practices for securing talent – creating efficiencies and clear protocols for how we communicate with the rep community
  • Create a vision for how to best delineate and manage needs that are pure editorial (including video) vs. requests for services for brand-led programs 
  • Manager junior-to-mid level staff working on casting / securing talent

Qualifications

  • 8+ years experience in booking talent and talent relations
  • Extensive network of relationships across the talent representation community (managers, publicists, labels, studios, networks, etc.) 
  • Proven track record of securing talent for media programs and properties – including a range of people and personalities.  
  • History of securing bold face names a plus
  • Tenacious individual who knows when to not take “no” for an answer
  • Beyond relationships and determination, must also be a strategic and creative thinker 
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
