Large Medical Center in great area looking for a Surgical Technologist.

 

Typical hours for this position: Mon - Fri, hours will vary to meet needs of the department, weekday, weekend and holiday call rotation schedule.

 

Under the direct supervision of the surgeon and the circulating nurse and overall direction of the Assistant Managers, OR Manager, Director of Surgical Services and Vice President of Patient Care Services the surgical technician assists in the nursing care and presentation of the surgical patient. The technologist handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

 

Participates in the plan of care - ● Reports pertinent observations to RN. ● Knowledgeable of patients plan of care.

 

Implements safe and appropriate care - ● Provides direct patient care within the interpreted guidelines of the job description. ● Competent in all technical skills per job description and per primary work area. ● Follows standard precautions at all times. ● Provides safe and appropriate care of the patient. ● Accurately collects specimens and communicates effectively to circulator. ● Maintains accurate irrigation amounts. ● Maintains and communicates accurate intra-operative medication administration.

 

Provides quality learning environment for new staff - Provides quality learning environment for new staff. ● Assists with the orientation of others as directed by the Manager and Clinical Educator. ● Completes accurate weekly evaluation sheets as requested. ● Provides input into final evaluation.

 

Provides for efficient OR throughput and meets assigned deadlines. - ● Organizes, prioritizes and completes care within the assigned shift. Completes daily, weekly and monthly assignments. ● Gives organized, concise relief reports. ● Utilizes downtime for the promotion of patient and/or medical center goals. ● Works in a timely manner to turn over cases. ● Assists with other daily department requirements/needs during free time. ● Utilizes time management skills.

 

Sets up tables, instruments, and supplies for specified cases. - ● Is prepared in a timely manner when setting up sterile tables and is familiar with all types of instrumentation used in assigned services. ● All essential instruments, supplies and equipment in the OR room prior to the arrival of the patient. ● Utilizes surgeon's preference cards for procedures guidelines. ● Seldom requests additional supplies while the circulator is in direct care of the patient. ● Is familiar with the operation of surgical equipment or seeks guidance from appropriate person skilled in the operating of specific equipment. ● Aware of surgeon's preferences for draping and assists in creating a sterile field by proper placement and handling of drapes and provides for patient safety and dignity during draping. ● Assists with the surgical procedure by anticipating the surgeon's needs in passing instruments. ● Assists with the surgical procedure by anticipating the surgeon's needs in passing instruments, suture sponges and supplies and is knowledgeable of surgical procedures and human anatomy. ● Completes surgical counts following department policies, procedures and standards and has not unresolved counts. ● Identifies and reports unsafe situations. Keeps circulator informed of essential information related to the procedure, i.e., supplies, specimen, etc., without disrupting the teams focus on the patient. ● Assists with terminal cleaning of operating room and restocking of all equipment, instrumentation and supplies.

 

Provides a Clean and Safe Patient Environment/Work area - ● OR Room organized, all equipment removed and stored in proper place to include x-ray aprons, positioning devices, etc. ● All equipment/instruments stored in appropriate places in center core. ● Actively participates in the time out and the "WHO" checklist.

 

Position Requirements

 

Degree/Diploma: High School Diploma or GED

Additional Educational Requirements: Completion of surgical technologist course.

Certification/License Title: Current Surgical Technologist Certification.

Additional Certification/Licensure Requirements: Current CPR certification required.
