Job Description

Type of employment: Permanent 
Business Line: SGS Minerals- Geochemistry 
Reporting to: Operations Manager 

• Organizes workflow throughout the laboratory ensuring client deadlines are met and the laboratory is operating at peak efficiency
• Defines daily priorities for each of department to achieve client requirements
• Under the direction of the Operations Manager and in conjunction with the department supervisors ensures that the laboratory is staffed appropriately to achieve client and business requirements
• Under the general direction of the Operations Manager allocates staff and resources appropriately within the laboratory to achieve capacity requirements
• With direction from the sales and client services team, develops and monitors the laboratory pipeline to ensure that the laboratory is equipped and capable of meeting clients requirements
• Provides regular feedback to the sales team regarding the laboratories current and projected capacity to assist with proposal development 
• Coordinates regular (weekly/monthly) forecasts of staffing requirements to the Operations Manager 
• Works with department supervisors to set and monitor efficiency expectations for technical staff
• Monitors throughput and performance of each department providing daily feedback to the Operations Manager on issues and areas for improvement
• Informs the client services team of any operational related issues that may impact service delivery to clients
• Solve day-to-day production and process problems.
• Provide weekly/monthly status reports with estimated completion dates to support the client service team.
• Identifies and leads continuous improvement projects in the laboratory relating to improving efficiency
• May be assigned to coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.
• This position operates under minimal direction
• Acts with professionalism at all times when representing the business to both clients and fellow employees. 

Qualifications

• A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required. 
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a geochemical analysis related field (XRF, Party/Umpire, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, Wet-AAS, Fire Assay, Sample Reduction and LECO) would be an asset.
• Strong leadership skills and organization skills.
• Knowledge of good laboratory practices and good management practices.
• Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner. 
• Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
• Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
• Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
• Ability to work well with others & independently. 
• Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
• Works well under pressure.
• Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
• Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
