Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Designing, implementing, customising and maintaining Agriculture specific GIS. Production of high quality GIS based reports to enhance and serve as a sales tool for the intellectual property of the business.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Desk-based data capture (digitising) to convert paper maps to GIS datasets
  • Undertaking data analyses and data conversion
  • Manipulating GIS data to create information products to meet specific needs of Soil Scientists and Agriculturist
  • Accurate and high quality production of Soil Maps
  • Accurate and high quality production of Chemical Maps
  • Accurate and high quality production of Yield Maps
  • Accurate and high quality production of Recommendation Maps
  • Download, convert and upload GIS data available from internal and external sources to make it usable.
  • Perform GIS data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy, identifying and correcting errors or omissions in the data.
  • Production of NDVI maps from near-infrared aerial or satellite images.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks timeously as assigned by direct line managers.

Specific Authorities

  • Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection, and take action to address the hazard.
  • Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and take action to address the issue.
  • Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.

Qualifications

Education

  • Tertiary or equivalent qualification in Geography

Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software
  • Extensive knowledge of MS Office software, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Cartography /Geography
  • Knowledge of Google Earth Pro Software
  • Knowledge of MS Windows file systems and cloud storage (Dropbox, Google Drive)
