Job Description
We are seeking a hands-on and reliable Site Caretaker to support the smooth and safe operation of our Ellesmere Port site. This is a practical, on-the-ground role that involves maintaining the site’s facilities, addressing maintenance needs directly, and ensuring the workplace remains safe, clean, and compliant with health and safety standards.
What You’ll Do
- Carry out day-to-day maintenance and minor repairs across the site
- Ensure building services (e.g., water, gas, heating) are operating safely and efficiently
- Act as first responder to site issues – from basic repairs to coordinating specialist support
- Supervise and support contractors working on-site for repairs and minor projects
- Undertake general upkeep, housekeeping, and improvement projects around the site
- Maintain clear records of maintenance tasks and contractor activities
- Identify, report, and assist in resolving health & safety risks
- Ensure all work complies with SGS’s safety, equality, and integrity standards
Qualifications
- Solid understanding of general building maintenance and site operations
- Practical, hands-on experience with facilities maintenance tasks
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Full driving licence
Desirable:
- FLT Licence
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Skills in plumbing, electrical, or joinery work
- Experience supervising contractors or working in a laboratory or technical environment
- Relevant trade qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds, BTEC) or equivalent practical experience
