Quality Assurance Analyst

The employee provides quality assurance and software testing services within the Information Technology Division of the Department of Revenue. This position plans and organizes process and software test efforts for tax processing and/or motor carrier products and services. This position may also be involved in implementation of automated software testing solutions

• On behalf of the supervisor, may coordinate the work of lower level QA staff;
• Acts as technical expert and information resource concerning assigned areas;
• Performs and leads tests to ensure that all IT systems, products and services meet and preferably exceed minimum standards and requirements;
• Works closely with the Project Manager, Business Analyst, and Applications Development Team during software development to include areas of application development, operation/technical support and
security;
• May facilitate automated software evaluation and implementation
Leads and administers change control processes to ensure zero defect software development;
• Creates complex test data for applications;
• Documents testing data, findings and reports;
• Ensures the development of a database (history file);
• Provides requested weekly/bi-weekly/monthly reports and regularly updates assigned manager;
• Devises improvements to current procedures and develops models of possible future configurations;
• Performs complex work flow analysis and recommends quality improvements;
• Recommends new/improved QA practices and procedures;
• Mentors and provides guidance and training to new and/or lower level staff;
• Prepares QA documents, manuals, training curriculum and training sessions; acts as resource for agency technical writers;
• Performs related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Seven (7) years full-time professional work experience in Information Technology project development, quality assurance, and/or Function/Business Process Analysis.

Substitutions: Accredited college training may substitute for the required work experience, with a maximum substitution of four (4) years. (Fifteen (15) semester hours in Information Technology or a related area is required.)

Accredited graduate training in the above area may substitute for the required work experience, with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.

Three (3) years of work experience as a state Business Systems Consultant-Senior (1BD1); Project Manager-Associate (1BR1); Quality Assurance Analyst (1BL2); Business Systems Consultant-Intermediate (1BD2) may substitute for all of the required experience.

• Broad knowledge of agency IT/business systems, PC hardware/software and management principles; 
• Broad knowledge of QA testing and reporting procedures and practices, preferably extensive knowledge of automated testing software;
• Broad knowledge of applicable federal/state/local rules, regulations, statutes and procedures;
• Extensive knowledge of applications development, operations/technical support and applicable security programs/practices;
• Ability to identify and resolve problems or develop creative solutions, when necessary;
• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing;
• Ability to manage diverse human resources
