Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls) are independent, Catholic, single-gender elementary schools committed to academic excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community.  The educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 30 countries, including 22 schools in the United States.  The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Our girls and boys are taught in single-gender classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities.  With a total enrollment of approximately 700 students, the schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head.

Job Description

Sacred Heart Schools is seeking Head and Assistant Coaches to join its team of instruction professionals committed to supporting fully the Schools’ mission and goals.  The position’s initial areas of focus will be to train, mentor, and guide and coach 4th – 8th grade students to create sportsmanlike teams and individuals.  The Coach positions will report directly to the Athletic Director in support of the student life program and the mission of the schools and consistent with the philosophy and Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart.

 

Games and Practices times:  

Winter 2014-2015

Girls and Boys Basketball

October 15 to March 15

Practices after school

Games – during the week / weekends

 

Spring 2015

Boys Baseball, Girls Soccer, Girls Softball, Boys Volleyball, Coed Track

March 15 to June 1

Practices after school

Games – during the week / weekends 

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Coaching or Assisting the head coach during practice drills and games
  • Orient students to techniques and skills for each sport
  • Organize students to be on time, and ready for each game
  • Manage and encourage the students/team members to play with good sportsmanship

Qualifications

Successful Candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Playing or coaching experience
  • Positive reinforcement techniques for instruction
  • Experience working with elementary age students helpful
