Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls) are independent, Catholic, single-gender elementary schools committed to academic excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community.  The educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 30 countries, including 22 schools in the United States.  The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Our girls and boys are taught in single-gender classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities.  With a total enrollment of approximately 700 students, the schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head.

Job Description

The Middle School Division Head is an experienced educator, who understands the mission of the school, needs of middle school students and is knowledgeable about educational best practice for these grade levels in an Independent-Catholic School setting. The middle school currently enrolls approximately 240 students and employees approximately 22 faculty members.

The Middle School Division Head functions in essence as principal of grades 6-8--responsibilities include:

• Providing an environment conducive to spiritual, academic, social, emotional and physical growth

• Maintaining the standing of the school among other schools in the area, in the Network of Sacred Heart Schools and the ISACS network 

• Working collaboratively with the Head of Schools

• Working in conjunction with the Leadership Team of the schools

• Supporting the Admissions area with transitions of transfer students, and orientation of new families 

• Reviewing, designing, and implementing curriculum

• Continuously supervising and evaluating faculty 

• Continuously reviewing all programs of the middle school

• Handling appropriate disciplinary issues that may arise in the middle school

• Managing planning & budget responsibilities for the middle school 

• Keeping accurate records and supervising communication with faculty, parents and other institutions

• Attending school special events (as needed) to further relations with Sacred Heart constituents

• Developing and implementing school-wide and division specific schedules and room assignments

• Attending Academic Team Meetings 

• Fulfilling other responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Schools

The Middle School Division Head reports directly to the Head of Schools. The Middle School Division Head will be a part of the Leadership Team for the schools, which includes Head of Schools, Primary and Lower School Division Heads, Head of Student Life, Chief Financial Officer, and Director of Institutional Advancement.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to provide leadership consistent with the mission of Sacred Heart education

• Advanced Degree— minimally, a Masters in Education/Educational Administration or similar field

• Teaching experience in middle school  

• Excellent writing, communications, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Illinois Type 75 Administrative Credential

• Administrative Experience

• Experience in a Sacred Heart School or other Independent School
