Job Description

As a Calibration Engineer, you will be a key member of the Propulsion Systems Benchmarking team, focusing on the evaluation of hybrid and electric vehicles (HEV/EV). You will be responsible for the end-to-end benchmarking process—from planning experiments and setting up data acquisition to performing teardowns and interpreting results. Your insights will directly influence future product development and value optimization strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instrumentation & Testing: Equip competitive vehicles with sensors (thermocouples, accelerometers, microphones, etc.) to monitor performance on tracks and dynamometers.

  • Hardware Teardowns: Coordinate and lead teardown workshops for competitive batteries, Electric Drive Units (EDUs), and power electronics.

  • Data Analysis: Interface with costing teams to generate detailed Bills of Materials (BOM) and analyze manufacturing best practices to share with design integration teams.

  • Track & Dyno Evaluation: Conduct drivability assessments at Proving Grounds using tools like Vehicle Spy and OBD scanners. Perform federally mandated test cycles to analyze competitive fuel economy, emissions, and EV range strategies.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Communicate findings through technical reports and presentations to peers, supervisors, and product development teams.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or Applied Physics (or equivalent engineering degree) from an accredited university.

  • Experience: 1–2 years of experience within an OEM or Tier 1 Supplier environment.

  • Technical Knowledge: Fundamental understanding of Hybrid and Electric vehicle architectures.

  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving abilities and excellent verbal/written communication skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Advanced Degree: Master of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or Applied Physics.

  • Software Proficiency: Experience with test development tools (e.g., Python, Visual Basic).

  • Networking Tools: Experience with CAN/Networking tools such as INCA, ODX, or CANalyzer.
