Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Metrology Expert to join our quality and manufacturing engineering team. In this role, you will be the technical authority on dimensional measurement, ensuring that every component, jig, and assembly meets the highest standards of precision and engineering intent.
The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between physical measurement and engineering analysis, providing the data-driven insights necessary to maintain world-class manufacturing quality.
1. Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
Measurement & Inspection
Individual Parts: Perform dimensional inspections of mechanical parts using CMM, laser trackers, portable arms, optical scanners, and other calibrated instruments.
Jigs & Tooling: Inspect and validate jigs, fixtures, and assembly tools to ensure design specifications and functional dimensions are met. Support maintenance for periodic re-calibration and re-qualification.
Assembly Verification: Execute in-jig measurements to confirm proper positioning and alignment. Identify deviations such as gap, flush, and hole pattern errors to support First Article Inspections (FAI).
Conformity: Verify parts against 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, and strict GD&T specifications.
Analysis & Problem Solving
Deviation Analysis: Classify anomalies (systematic vs. random) and identify root causes using historical data and trending.
Engineering Support: Interpret GD&T and propose improvements to tolerance schemes. Provide measurement strategies for new production lines and participate in PFMEA discussions.
Corrective Action: Propose and implement solutions in collaboration with Engineering, Tooling, and Production teams.
Documentation & Reporting
Generate detailed measurement reports (PDF + raw data) including pass/fail status and traceability.
Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) with documented evidence.
Maintain metrology dashboards and equipment calibration certificates.
2. Equipment & Software Proficiency
The Expert will operate or supervise the use of:
Hardware: CMM (bridge or horizontal), Laser Trackers, Photogrammetry, and Portable Arms (Faro, Hexagon, etc.).
Hand Tools: Surface plates, micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
Software: Proficiency in PolyWorks, PC-DMIS, Metrolog X4, or equivalent industry-standard platforms.
Maintenance: Ensure the proper calibration, traceability, and safe handling of all measurement instruments.
Qualifications
Technical Mastery: Advanced understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5 or ISO equivalent).
Digital Literacy: Ability to read complex drawings and interact with 3D CAD models.
Analytical Mindset: Strong root cause analysis skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets.
Communication: Proven ability to translate technical data into actionable advice for production and design teams.
Manufacturing Knowledge: Experience with diverse processes such as machining, assembly, composites, or stamping.
