Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

The Director of Planning and Allocations, Retail, leads and directs the Planning Team and coordinates with key members of Merchandising and Allocations to deliver business goals. Collaborates with DMM on Strategic initiatives, long term planning and financial analysis. Participates in the development and execution of Merchandise plans, including sales, planning, forecasting, product buys, sell thru, and allocations into retail stores.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS

  • Lead the Planning, Allocation and Merchandising Teams in post-mortem analysis; communicate opportunities and successes across all functional groups.
  • Lead the Planners through analysis of historical data and current trends to identify risks and opportunities to the business, and recommend strategies to correct and achieve sales plans – shared out with Buyers
  • Build gender / brand unit sales targets by month for quarter with Buying team
  • Create monthly inventory flow tied to unit sales plan – by month for quarter – at gender / brand level – in conjunction with Buyers
  • Ensure Planners and Buyers manage to the OTB based on planned and actualized sales and monthly ending inventory targets. Review seasonal purchases to ensure inventory buy will fit within sales goals
  • Manage seasonal merchandise flow strategies to maximize sales and customers’ expectations
  • Develop a strong relationship between Planning and Merchandising to ensure accurate forecasting, approve category assortment plans by season, analyze product history and sales trends
  • Provide item level history for Buyers to use as part of their Assortment Building
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives to develop processes and systems to support forecasting, replenishment, and allocations
  • Coach and counsel the Planning and Allocation team on a regular basis. Conduct annual performance reviews and provide continual feedback on performance
  • Recruit and develop high-performance Planning Team, including formal and informal training, coaching and leadership development
  • Work with DMM to determine Size Profile parameters on a quarterly basis

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 5 years of Retail Planning experience – preferably within Apparel
  • Advanced computer skills (Excel – pivot tables/ v-lookups/etc., Word, Internet)
  • Expert level of knowledge around planning processes, analytical tools, and managing a planning organization
  • Knowledge of supply chain management – demand, inventory, purchasing and delivering plans
