Job Description

The Payments team enables Square to move money. From developing infrastructure to working with external partners, we find the best ways to move money across different networks and countries in a way that is cost-effective, available, scalable, secure, and forward-looking. On the Payments team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the Payments Platform services and infrastructure that move money for Square. You will be deeply involved in the technical details of building highly available and reliable services, while also working with product teams to enable Square to rapidly build new capabilities for our merchants and buyers all over the world.

As an Engineering Manager on the Payments team, you’ll hit the ground running to help us:

  • Scale the team, make technical direction decisions while also directly contributing to technical work
  • Make pragmatic engineering decisions in a short amount of time
  • Help set a broad direction and vision, put together a strategy, and implement tactical approaches to delivery a seamless experience for our users
  • Participate in key technical and design discussions with technical leads across engineering teams while being a hands-on manager
  • Hire world class talent and provide technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members
  • Manage projects and deliver quantifiable results in a timely manner

Qualifications

You have:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical, working experience (7+ years preferred)
  • Experience developing product infrastructure and web services
  • Experience developing server-side code
  • Experience as a technical lead or team lead.
