We are seeking a Senior Design Director to join our team in San Francisco, to help dream, define, and deploy the new generation of Seller tools across Square’s core product line. Design is very important at Square. This is a senior, director-level position that will manage and mentor members of the product design team, hire to grow the team, engage with discipline partners across the company, and most importantly be responsible for holding the highest bar for design quality. The Senior Design Director is a strategic thinker who understands the impact that design has on Square's business, has a proven track record in building strong partnerships across organizations, and is able to clearly articulate his/her vision to designers and executives alike. 

Our ideal candidate is driven by strong instincts and has the ability to turn complex problems into elegant, intuitive solutions. They understand that design at Square doesn't stop at the user interface, but extends to the end-to-end experience of people interacting with our products in retails stores, restaurants, and anywhere commerce happens.

• 7+ years of experience managing a design team, in addition to hands-on experience turning complex problems into simple and engaging customer experiences for the web, iPad, iPhone, and Android

• Experience working with senior leadership and multi-disciplinary teams in fast moving environments

• An ability to solve problems conceptually in collaboration with the broader team, including engineers, product managers, and data analysts

• Solid knowledge of the requirements of the creative process including typical time and resources needed to produce quality work on time with efficiency, and to specification

• Experience conducting customer research ranging from insight protocols to usability tests
