Job Description

Payments is Square’s core product and the foundation for the growth of many other Square products. Millions of merchants use the payments product for their business every day. The Payment Product team focuses on improving the end-to-end user experience for these merchants and on building new user-facing tools to help them better manage the payment aspect of their business. A few examples of the products that we work on:

  • In-app Terminal, which is the payments experience in the Square POS app, often with a reader
  • Virtual Terminal, which provides a way for merchants to take payments in a browser without a reader
  • Card on File, which allows merchants to store buyers’ cards for future payments 
  • Instant Deposits, which enables merchants to immediately deposit their credit card sales in their bank for a fee
  • Onboarding and new user experience for payment products
  • Transaction and deposit reporting
  • Referral program

As a Payments Analyst, you will:

  • Partner with Square’s product, engineering and operations teams to prioritize and answer the questions where analytics will have a material impact
  • Use scientific rigor to optimize outcomes in payment acceptance, transaction costs, and product features
  • Build self-service data tools that enable monitoring the health and performance of our core business
  • Be the subject matter expert on payments data and communicate recommendations to decision makers
  • Evangelize data best practices and act as an advocate of data driven culture across Square


Qualifications

  • 4+ years of industry experience using data analytics to produce impactful insights in payment, product, marketing, or business roles
  • Experience driving cross-functional analytics projects from beginning to end: question formation, data model design, logging, ETL, validation, analysis, machine learning, visualization, and presentation
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex results to partners in verbal, visual, and written formats
  • Ability to initiate and drive projects to completion with minimal guidance
  • Willingness to learn new tools and technologies to model and solve unstructured problems
  • Experience with large data sets is a plus
