Job Description

Square is looking for a strategic, creative and results-oriented leader to join our Melbourne team as Head of Marketing, Australia. You will be responsible for building Square’s growing local brand and exciting product roadmap, delivering on aggressive acquisition goals alongside our AU team. This is a senior role requiring a strong background in both performance and brand marketing. The ideal candidate will be an inspired marketing leader, a skilled manager, particularly strong in digital marketing and someone who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative and hands-on environment.

You will:

  • Design and execute creative, cross-channel marketing strategies and campaigns to support Square’s product launches, announcements and new features.

  • Analyse and optimise best-practice performance marketing to deliver on aggressive acquisition targets.

  • Manage campaign performance and analysis, including reporting and in-depth measurement of CPA, LTV and ROI.

  • Test, measure and optimise audience targeting and creative to increase effectiveness of Square’s customer acquisition efforts.

  • Manage the channel marketing plan and applicable budget to maximise resource and budget effectiveness.

  • Implement, manage and optimise customer lifecycle across growth and retention marketing tactics including email, programmatic x-sell / up-sell and in-product promotion.

  • Build and leverage owned content and channels (Social Media, Blog, Image and Video Asset library) to connect with customers, build conversation and support Square initiatives.

  • Work with key business partners, including retail, technology, event and startup, to build Square’s brand within the local community.

  • Develop collateral, materials and assets with support of San Francisco-based design teams and our locally-based part-time graphic design contractor to support marketing campaigns.

  • Develop cohesive written materials, including product marketing plans, messaging strategies, FAQs, merchant testimonials and other collateral.

  • Be Square’s local brand champion, ensuring consistency in unified messaging, consistency of visual identity and consistency across all brand assets.

  • Manage and coach a direct report (Acquisition Specialist) to support team initiatives and projects.

  • Manage all relevant marketing agencies.

Qualifications

You Have:

  • Undergraduate and/or postgraduate qualifications in business or marketing major.

  • Minimum 8 years relevant marketing experience.

  • Experience in B2B, B2C and e-Commerce preferred.

  • Experience working with senior marketing professionals across multiple locations.

  • Experience building and establishing a brand’s identity on a local level with input from global teams, with a portfolio or examples to show past campaign, creative and content experience.

  • Proven experience directly managing, budgeting for and optimising performance marketing channels (AdWords, Bing, Social, Affiliates, Display etc), closely monitoring Cost per Acquisition, Customer Lifetime Value and ROI.

  • An integrated marketing mindset, with the ability to understand the interplay between brand building activity and performance marketing, and the balance between managing earned and owned channels.

  • Knowledge and direct experience managing SEO, Content, Community and Social Media brand channels.

  • Proven leadership experience, both in building a small but nimble marketing team and also contributing to a local leadership team. 

  • Excellent copywriting skills and a keen eye for visuals and design.

  • Ability to work ‘hands-on’, independently and within tight deadlines, adjusting to rapidly changing priorities to balance both short-term demands and long-term strategic initiatives.

  • The ability to work well with others, build trust within a team, and work effectively in a highly collaborative and global team environment.

  • Strong organisational skills and can manage multiple projects (and associated stakeholders) simultaneously.
