International Technical Project Manager

  • Full-time

Company Description

We believe everyone should be able to participate and thrive in the economy. So we’re building tools that make commerce easier and more accessible to all. We started with a little white credit card reader but haven’t stopped there. Our new reader helps our sellers accept chip cards and NFC payments, and our Cash app lets people pay each other back instantly. We’re empowering the independent electrician to send invoices, setting up the favorite food truck with a delivery option, helping the ice cream shop pay its employees, and giving the burgeoning coffee chain capital for a second, third, and fourth location. Let’s shorten the distance between having an idea and making a living from it. We’re here to help sellers of all sizes start, run, and grow their business—and helping them grow their business is good business for everyone.

Job Description

Square's purpose is economic empowerment. At the heart of commerce lies the ability to exchange value for goods and services. The Payments team at Square is responsible for building products that help buyers and sellers exchange value. As a Technical Project Manager (TPM) within Payments at Square, you would play a critical role ensuring the success of complex, cross-functional technical projects requiring involvement from multiple stakeholders. TPMs at Square are masters at multi-tasking. They are equally comfortable in a roomful of executives as they are with hashing out complex technical project details.

As a TPM, you will:

  • Be responsible for the success of technical projects from start to finish.

  • Be the connector for product, engineering, analytics, operations, the local country team, and others through the entire project lifecycle.

  • Facilitate and manage technical projects, gather clear requirements, develop and track project milestones, estimate work efforts, and manage competing priorities.

  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams across Square to develop detailed schedules for multiple, related workstreams within a project.

  • Evangelize international efforts and advocate for international product and feature needs.

  • Highlight risks and clearly communicate those risks to stakeholders

  • Identify blockers and facilitate the removal of those blockers

  • Manage communication of progress/status with the Payments team, executives and other project stakeholders

  • Be scrappy, resourceful, and get-things-done.

Qualifications

You have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree, ideally in a technical discipline, with 4+ years of experience managing large cross-functional engineering projects at a fast-paced, high-growth company in any industry, but preferably in tech or fintech.

  • A superior ability to communicate with engineers and executives.

  • An ability to distill complex issues into solvable and actionable tasks.

  • Extremely strong requirements gathering and project planning skills with an eye for details.

  • High energy and an ability to stay positive under pressure.

  • A passion for pushing boundaries and questioning the status quo.

Even better:

  • Ability to fluently communicate in English and French
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodology and the use of JIRA.

  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices

  • Knowledge of the Payments industry and its systems.

  • Knowledge of Accounting, Reconciliation, and SOX compliance

  • PMP Certification
