Job Description

The General Manager is an entrepreneurial individual who will own and grow our Philadelphia market. You'll be empowered to aggressively grow Philadelphia’s revenue by defining the market’s strategy, mentoring and leading a local team, and closely collaborating with fellow General Managers and Square & Caviar marketing, sales and operations leads. You’ll also often and enthusiastically directly lead the tactical execution of important initiatives.

A strong GM candidates possesses a mix of skills: analytical, problem-solving, critical reasoning, creativity, leadership, and resilience. You need to have an entrepreneurial spirit that drives you to inspire and push your team, constantly ask questions, use and interpret data, and get-things-done in a fast-paced, always-evolving environment. To accomplish your goals, you’ll need to have the knowledge, empathy and confidence required to connect with and influence your team, your peers and your market’s restaurants, couriers and diners.

The job will be located in our Philadelphia office and will involve 1-2 trips per year to Square HQ in San Francisco. Square and Caviar are fast-growing businesses with many opportunities for professional growth - the General Manager role is an excellent, entrepreneurial role with direct interaction and access to Square and Caviar’s leadership team.

Qualifications

You will:

  • Serve as the CEO/COO for Caviar’s Philadelphia market and be fully responsible for growing the market in line with Caviar’s national goals and strategy
  • Define and drive the implementation of a local market strategy and lead your team's day-to-day execution of that strategy across all fronts of the local business: restaurant sales, courier recruitment, onboarding and turnout, marketing and diner growth, financial performance and business operations
  • Professionally develop your team and ensure they remain motivated to deliver on bold growth and service objectives
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to grow and develop the market, both top-line revenue and bottom-line profit dollars
  • Monitor key metrics in Philadelphia on a real-time/daily basis to ensure aggressive growth and smooth operations
  • Develop and support well-designed restaurant, courier and diner tests

 

You have:

  • 3+ years of post-MBA management consulting at a top-tier firm in a project management role or 6+ years of high-achievement in a general management role or a functional management role in operations, marketing/sales, or business development
  • People leadership skills: you have experience coaching and training a team; you’re a strong communicator able to keep colleagues, team members and other key players aligned
  • Strategic skills: you are good at thinking strategically / seeing the big picture, but you are also able to go deep into operational problems; you are able to prioritize, understand, and dissect problems, develop solutions, and implement them quickly
  • Analytical skills: you can define relevant analyses, gather and interpret data, and create compelling storylines based on conclusions from analyses
  • Local insight: you have a deep understanding of the Philadelphia market, including the restaurant landscape, consumer attitudes, demographics and behaviors, and logistical considerations (traffic patterns, weather, etc)
  • Critical reasoning skills: you display disciplined thinking that is clear, rational, open-minded and informed by evidence
  • Resilience: you persevere and drive great outcomes despite challenges and constantly evolving best-practices and national guidance
  • Entrepreneurial experience as well as prior experience in sales, marketing, business development, and/or operations is a plus
  • A love and/or experience in the food or hospitality, and desire to consistently deliver an amazing diner experience is a plus
  • Product knowledge: experience working with and providing valuable feedback and insights to product teams is a plus
