Software Quality Engineer

  • Full-time

Company Description

We believe the economy is better when everyone has access. When everyone has room to grow. No one should be left out because the cost is too great or the technology too complex. We started with a little white credit card reader but haven’t stopped there. We’re empowering the independent electrician to send invoices, setting up the favorite food truck with a delivery option, helping the ice cream shop pay its employees, and giving the burgeoning coffee chain capital for a second, third, and fourth location. We’re here to help sellers of all sizes start, run, and grow their business—and helping them grow their business is good business for everyone.

Job Description

Our hardware team builds the tangible connection to all that is Square. We started with a simple and elegant Reader that turns any phone or tablet into a mobile point of sale. Since then, we have expanded our hardware footprint to meet the needs of more sellers. Most recently, we introduced our first Android-based solution: Square Register, the first fully integrated point of sale that enables people to start selling right out of the box. In this role, you will ensure our sellers and their customers have a remarkable experience by owning the system test strategy for our integrated Square hardware products.

You will:

  • Own the overall test strategy, both manual and automated, for the Android platform that ships on our hardware devices.

  • Move up and down the stack and become an expert on how applications, system, and firmware are integrated.

  • Partner with other development teams to create interfaces to enable product testability.

  • Write code to expand, stabilize, and mature product test automation framework.

  • Participate in all product development phases from requirements to production.

  • Communicate clear recommendations to product owners and stakeholders based on defined test goals, acceptance criteria, and identified risks.

  • Champion for a remarkable customer experience within product engineering through product and process improvements.
