Job Description

Square Payroll is the easiest way for small businesses to pay their employees. Our customers love our product because it gives them a simple way to pay their teams and removes the hassle of paying payroll taxes. Our team loves working on Payroll because were a nimble, full stack team with a lot of passion to build a remarkable Payroll product and business.

We have aggressive growth goals and are looking for a Payroll Growth Manager focused on Content to help achieve them. In this role you will help drive a step-change in product awareness, defining Square Payrolls public voice and building our digital presence. Thanks to your work, business owners will know what Square Payroll is and be eager to sign up. You will immerse yourself in the world of SMB owners: what questions do they have as they start, manage, and grow their businesses? What information would be most useful to them? Where do they turn for answers? What are the best opportunities to help them discover Square Payroll? Youll use these insights to craft a vision for how we reach and engage with potential employers - and youll execute on that vision to accelerate our growth

In this role you will:

  • Define the Square Payroll voice, determine our strategy to communicate with sellers across our in-product and external channels, and build a digital presence that engages prospective and current customers alike.

  • Develop deep knowledge about the pain-points and challenges our customers face, understand how our product addresses those, and learn about the broader payroll and benefits space. Share that knowledge in compelling and creative ways to generate top of funnel interest in our product.  

  • Build an arsenal of multimedia content to help millions of businesses owners start and grow their companies. Be comfortable producing the content yourself but also have the ability to direct others to increase your reach and impact.

  • Develop a syndication plan to place your content where the most SMB owners will find it: across our website and support center, partner sites, small business forums, video channels, podcasts, your own dedicated webcast or podcast, or other places we havent even thought of yet.

  • Identify and build relationships with external partners to increase awareness of Square Payroll, including trade associations, education platforms, small business advisors, and producers of events and tradeshows.

  • Collaborate within Square with many cross-functional teams working to grow the Square Payroll product.

  • Communicate nimbly and clearly. You use real words that make sense to normal people, and you clear up confusing or jargon-heavy content in a way that reflects Squares tone and voice.

  • Be experimental. Keep an eye on the data. Run tests, track the numbers, incorporate employer feedback...then repeat.

Qualifications

You have:

  • Creativity, with a track record of coming up with big ideas that create step-changes in business performance.

  • Follow-through, with the commitment and resilience to see those big ideas through to execution.

  • A love for content production and top notch writing skills. You can explain complicated product and policy concepts in simple, empathetic, jargon-free language using Square Payrolls voice (which youll help define).

  • Strong copy editing skills, with an eye to catch style and grammar errors.

  • Experience in social media editorial and strategic digital marketing.

  • Entrepreneurial spirit, with a self-starter mindset and determination to get things across the finish line.

  • A proven track record of high-performance in your current role, demonstrable project management skills, strong attention to detail, excellent time-management and organizational skills, and a creative approach to solving problems.

  • 3-5 years of relevant post-university work experience in content marketing and/or social media, and a BA/BS in a related field such as journalism, marketing, or communications.

  • Bonus points if youve worked at a rapidly growing startup, especially with a SaaS product or in the B2B space, and have experience building and engaging with large online communities.
