Job Description

Square Secure is the external product for Square’s risk and security services. The core value proposition that runs through our work is that we prevent sellers of all verticals and sizes from experiencing financial loss, throughout the seller lifecycle. Sellers look to Square Secure to shoulder the burden of complex, weighty matters like financial security and fraud management so they can focus on what they do best—running their business. We work with partners in Risk, Infosec, and teams across the company to develop external marketing and seller experience content, as well as influence program and product strategy.

One of Square Secure’s best tools in making Square sellers feel empowered and supported is in articulating our nuanced, sometimes challenging product content appropriately for each audience. To that end, the Square Secure team is hiring a Content Specialist to write product, experience, and marketing copy for a variety of seller audiences.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate across many teams. Partner with multiple cross-functional teams to evolve Square products in concert with our risk-focused understanding of the seller experience. Create engaging, accurate content that directs them to take specific action or to educational content.

  • Create content for a variety of mediums and audiences. Square Secure is at an inflection point where our value-focused risk messaging is applicable across many Square products, and you will have opportunities to amplify that messaging through multi-channel marketing campaigns. You’ll need to modify your voice, your content, and your medium depending on the product and associated audience at hand.

  • Write nimbly and clearly. Risk and security can be wonky stuff. Clear up confusing or jargon-heavy content to reassure customers during a complicated and potentially stressful experience—while ensuring content is reflective of Square’s voice and tone.

  • Multi-task like a pro. Manage multiple content projects, dependencies, and timelines at once, and deliver on moving deadlines.

  • Tailor content for a worldwide audience. Square’s reach is global. Collaborate closely with international teams to develop an understanding of the intricacies of their market and localize US-content across multiple locales.

  • Be experimental. Keep an eye on the data. Run tests, leverage seller feedback, feedback from Risk agents, and other data points to improve existing content and team processes.

Qualifications

You have:

  • 2-3 years of copywriting or content writing experience

  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to explain complicated product and policy concepts in simple, empathetic, jargon-free language using Square’s voice

  • Strong copy editing skills, with the ability to quickly identify style and grammar errors

  • Strong analytical skills and a risk mitigation mindset that allow you to think and act strategically around areas of opportunity

  • An understanding of how to convey enthusiasm and empathy while protecting Square's internal controls

  • A proven track record of high-performance in your current role, demonstrable project management skills, strong attention to detail, excellent time-management and organizational skills, and a creative approach to solving problems

  • Comfort in delivering consistently high-quality work within short or flexible timelines, and with evolving tools

  • Experience in managing relationships with cross-functional partners and balancing competing priorities across multiple stakeholders

  • A proactive nature, a positive attitude, and a high degree of motivation to go above and beyond to learn new skills and get things done

Even better:

  • Experience and/or expert knowledge of Square hardware and software

  • Prior experience in the technology, payments and/or risk industries

  • Experience in brand marketing, product marketing, advertising, or a related field

  • Experience with the theory and practice of educational content creation

  • Experience in creating annotated screenshots, gifs, and screencast videos

  • Experience in using Google Analytics, and other tools, to measure the effectiveness of content initiatives

  • A basic understanding of HTML and markdown

  • Experience in localization
