Product Design Lead, Restaurants
- New York, NY
We believe everyone should be able to participate and thrive in the economy. So we’re building tools that make commerce easier and more accessible to all. We started with a little white credit card reader but haven’t stopped there. Our new reader helps our sellers accept chip cards and NFC payments, and our Cash app lets people pay each other back instantly. We’re empowering the independent electrician to send invoices, setting up the favorite food truck with a delivery option, helping the ice cream shop pay its employees, and giving the burgeoning coffee chain capital for a second, third, and fourth location. Let’s shorten the distance between having an idea and making a living from it. We’re here to help sellers of all sizes start, run, and grow their business—and helping them grow their business is good business for everyone.
We are looking for a Director-level Design Lead for our newest product team: Restaurants. We’re reimagining and modernizing the restaurant order management and omnichannel experience to meet the needs of a large range of restaurants for the purpose of better-suited workflows—happier employees mean happier diners. As the Design Lead, you’ll have influence over all aspects of the customer experience across all product and marketing touchpoints, you will lead and grow a team of world-class designers, and you will have the opportunity to work within the support of Square’s established and iconic brand while re-evaluating and rethinking the patterns which brought us to today.
Design has been central to our product development process from the very beginning: we employ design thinking to build easy-to-use tools that help our merchants better run their businesses. As the Design Lead for Restaurants, you’ll be leading research, directing and contributing to visual and interaction design, building and managing a team of generalist designers, collaborating with other team discipline Leads, and presenting work and progress to Square executives.
The breadth of this role will span:
Shaping the vision of a product that requires both emotional and bottom-line appeal.
Working cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Business to define key objectives, interactions and functionalities of Point of Sale product.
Conducting user research for the needs of the product by meeting with merchants and gaining first-hand experience
Problem-solving how to maintain Square’s level of design and appeal while also successfully integrating with key partners
