The cloud data services team exists to help other teams inside Square take advantage of cloud computing to make processing and getting information from the vast amounts of data we generate every day. We provide tools for other engineers inside Square to process massive amounts of data and are on the cutting edge of cloud computing use at Square.
In addition to our primary focus on data processing, we're also involved in helping other teams build safe and smart cloud computing components, by collaborating with them and working with them to get to the best designs.
We're looking for someone who has experience running systems and services that process large amounts of data in the cloud and has a passion for building frameworks and tools that make other engineers more successful at their jobs.
Communicate with engineering teams to assess and document their cloud-related needs through in-person conversations and written, technical designs and documentation.
Design and develop software that bridges Square data and service systems to the cloud.
Provide expert design consultation to Square teams interested in utilizing cloud technologies in their engineered solutions to product problems.
Provide mentorship and review support for engineering teams working with our technologies.
Contribute to monitoring, stability, and security of existing tools.
Participate in a team on-call rotation.
5+ years software engineering experience.
Familiarity with any of the following programming languages: Ruby, Go or Java.
Familiarity with large scale data ingestion into BigQuery or Redshift.
Familiarity managing large-scale cloud services and data pipelines on Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services.
Develop systems that enable the delivery of petabyte scale data to Google Cloud Platform and Amazon Web Services.
Help define the future of data systems for data science and machine learning services at Square.
Design the software-first approach to scaling and securing Square services in the cloud.
Act as a force multiplier for software deployment and scaling efforts by product engineering teams attempting to use cloud-based technologies in their engineered solutions.
Build strong verbal and written technical communication skills.
