Job Description

This Senior International Accountant role will be a key addition to the accounting organization as Square continues to grow its footprint around the world. This position is based in our headquarters in San Francisco, CA.  Square Inc. is looking for a highly motivated accountant to ensure that all international entity financial close and reporting processes are consistent with US GAAP for consolidation purposes and with local GAAP for statutory filing purposes. The successful candidate provides accounting and financial oversight for our international entities, and is primarily responsible for the completeness, accuracy and compliance of all financial records for multiple legal entities. He/she will have a broad international accounting and reporting responsibilities as well as the opportunity to build scalable processes to support our continued global expansion.

You will:

  • Prepare and review monthly journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and BS/PL flux analyses for international entities. Assist in the monthly, quarterly and annual close process of foreign subsidiaries with the main goal of ensuring timeliness, accuracy and completeness of close process

  • Assist in corporate quarterly and annual auditors’ reviews with regards to the international reporting, compile PBC files related to US and international audits

  • Assist in preparing statutory financial reports and accounts, and work with local entities to bridge statutory financial and tax books to U.S. GAAP. Provide updates and analyses for all international entities during monthly close meeting, and local entity board meetings

  • Reconcile intercompany balances and ensure intercompany agreement terms are followed and settlements are prepared and paid accurately

  • Prepare, maintain and reconcile monthly foreign exchange transactions and intercompany accounts plus related gains/losses

  • Precisely perform internal controls over operations and financial reporting to ensure there are no SOX deficiencies within the international accounting processes

  • Develop working relationships to collaborate with Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Tax, Treasury and International Finance Teams to meet day-to-day operational needs

  • Key contributor to the accounting set-up of future locations in accordance with Square’s growth plans

  • Support onboarding of the outsourced accounting providers in foreign jurisdictions, emphasizing performance, efficiency of deliverables, and adherence to tight deadlines

  • Assist with system implementations and perform user acceptance training. Support the team with the development of standard procedures and training materials in the international accounting area

  • Specials assignments and projects with the goal of improving and scaling processes and helping to drive long-term strategic growth

  • Approach work in a professional manner. Be dependable and exhibit leadership for the team

Qualifications

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Master’s degree in Accounting or a related field is a plus

  • 5+years of accounting experience, 2+ years of public accounting experience

  • Tech industry experience is a plus

  • Exhibit strong attention to detail, passion for numbers, ability to produce quality materials within tight timelines and simultaneously manage several projects

  • Experience with general ledger function and the month-end close process, including account reconciliations and analyses

  • Experience in analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports and financial statements

  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, and internal control principles, including US/foreign GAAP

  • Experience in Oracle Fusion or Oracle EBS, Hyperion is a plus

  • Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills. Desire to continually strive for ongoing process and systems improvements to better support all critical functional groups at Square in a collaborative, high-growth, exciting and fun environment with a positive “can do” attitude
