Software Development Manager, Payments

  • Full-time

Company Description

We believe the economy is better when everyone has access. When everyone has room to grow. No one should be left out because the cost is too great or the technology too complex. We started with a little white credit card reader but haven’t stopped there. We’re empowering the independent electrician to send invoices, setting up the favorite food truck with a delivery option, helping the ice cream shop pay its employees, and giving the burgeoning coffee chain capital for a second, third, and fourth location. We’re here to help sellers of all sizes start, run, and grow their business—and helping them grow their business is good business for everyone.

Job Description

The Underwriting Platform team is the front door to Square. As a payment aggregator, we are required to verify a seller’s identity before we can let them take payments. Like others in our space, we’ve depended on external vendors to provide identity verification services so that we could manage compliance and activate our sellers for payment processing. However, this system has historically barred underserved populations – so we’re changing it. True to Square’s purpose of Economic Empowerment, it is our mission to let anybody – individual, small/large business, citizen or immigrant – start their business on Square and keep it running.

As the Engineering Manager for the Underwriting Platform team, you will be responsible for driving the technical directions of the team, managing product goals, contributing to product strategy, and hiring and scaling your team. You will work with leaders across the company, collaborate with world class product managers and designers, and you’ll have direct exposure to the Payments leadership team.
