The Learning and Development (L&D) Specialist works with our catering Captain fleet to ensure best-in-class new hire training, standard onboarding processes and content creation, continued development of Captains, and strategic thinking around maximizing performance and positive behaviors in the field.
Square recently acquired Zesty, a white glove corporate catering service, to integrate with its Caviar business. Through our Zesty business, we service the top tech companies in the Bay and deliver food from the healthiest, tastiest, best restaurants around. Our clients love working with us due to best-in-class service, support, and hospitality. How do we accomplish this, you ask? Through an amazingly dedicated group of caterers and inventory workers we call Captains.
The Zesty Captain responsibilities range from inventory management, interacting with restaurants, traveling to and from our main hub to client sites, and ultimately providing a food catering service for corporate clients.
Were looking for someone who is passionate, analytical, and loves teaching and training to help the Captain team learn and grow! Youll ensure that the Captains are equipped with the knowledge and skills they need in order to be successful in their role, as well as provide opportunities for further career growth and development. Your focus will include new hire training, standard onboarding processes and content creation, continued development and strategic thinking around maximizing performance and positive behaviors in the field.
Assess the current state of affairs with regards to training efficacy and consistency
Work with our Hub Managers and operational Leads to determine the workflows and elements for optimal training processes
Work with our staffing agency and legal team to incorporate any legally required policies and information
Design training programs, content, and processes that are standardized and take into account the nuances of an operationally intensive and often dynamic workweek
Create a training manual that encompasses the various workflows and allows Hub Managers to hand off training to their direct reports with certainty around consistency and thoroughness
Create a system & schedule for continual feedback and updating of the training program

Set new hires up for success by developing the necessary skills and knowledge for the role while also creating an amazing onboarding experience
Develop soft skills of Captains to optimize the client experience
Improve Captain workflow and drive efficiency
Build the level of both technical food service delivery and positive customer engagement across the team
Prepare Captains for a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Enable a high performing, responsible and positive environment and culture
3-5 years of experience in organizational development, talent development, training and development or related field
Knowledge of learning theory, instructional design, adult learning principles
Strong public speaking, teaching, and coaching skills with a desire to see others succeed
An analytical, data-focused mindset with a track record of success in a metrics-driven environment
A deep understanding and experience in performance analysis, training facilitation, and instructional design
A willingness to get your hands dirty to understand the problems that face our customers and our team
Experience with e-learning development tools and educational technology a plus
Experience with food safety and hospitality training a plus.
