Job Description

The Sanctions Compliance teams objective is to further Squares mission of economic empowerment while keeping bad actors from utilizing our platform. You will lead a global sanctions compliance team to help us achieve these goals.

As the Sanctions Compliance Manager, you are an experienced and motivated sanctions practitioner, able to support and develop the inclusive growth of a team of compliance professionals. As a Lead, you are responsible for combating sanctions risk across the organization by utilizing effective tools and analyzing data to drive truly innovative decisions that impact a Global Sanctions Compliance Program.  

This role can be based out of either San Francisco, St. Louis or Salt Lake City.

You will:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of a global sanctions compliance program by managing the operations team, creating and maintaining policies and procedures, and making recommendations to the Head of Sanctions to improve operational efficiency

  • Manage the inclusive growth of a team responsible for decisioning sanctions alerts in a timely and effective manner

  • Assist the Head of Sanctions in driving increased performance of sanction screening controls, including through automation and machine learning, and make recommendations for potential control gaps to enhance or change existing controls and/or determine when new controls are necessary

  • Remain current with sanctions laws and regulations including OFAC and EU sanctions and other pertinent regulatory guidance in order to assess ongoing sanctions risks

  • Assist in analyzing sanctions direct and indirect legal and reputational risks in transactions and client onboarding/periodic reviews

  • Assist in preparing OFAC blocking, unblocking, and reject reports, as well as the annual blocked property reports, to ensure their timely filing

  • Support in researching and responding to regulatory and related requests and conducting Sanctions Risk Assessments, assist with proper maintenance of the proprietary watch lists and keywords sanctions list, oversee the maintenance of OFAC-related documentation for Audit, regulatory and supervisory reviews, and maintain departmental procedures

  • This is a full time position with occasional domestic and some international travel likely

Qualifications

You have:

  • 2+ years as a project or program manager with experience in international markets

  • 3 years experience with OFAC sanctions compliance

  • Experience leading sanctions-related projects in domestic and international jurisdictions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Even Better:

  • Experience working with automation and/or machine learning solutions

  • Strong knowledge of AML/CTF compliance and/or the payment space

  • Strong organization skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

  • Adaptability in an agile and fast-paced environment

  • Ability to execute independently and work with team members of all levels

  • A mindset to deliver results proactively, resourcefully, and methodically
