Inclusion & Diversity Lead

  • Full-time

Company Description

We believe the economy is better when everyone has access. When everyone has room to grow. No one should be left out because the cost is too great or the technology too complex. We started with a little white credit card reader but haven’t stopped there. We’re empowering the independent electrician to send invoices, setting up the favorite food truck with a delivery option, helping the ice cream shop pay its employees, and giving the burgeoning coffee chain capital for a second, third, and fourth location. We’re here to help sellers of all sizes start, run, and grow their business—and helping them grow their business is good business for everyone.

Job Description

At Square, our purpose is to empower within and outside our walls. We know that to build the best tools for the businesses we support all over the world, we have to start at home, with a workforce as diverse as our sellers and their customers.

As Inclusion & Diversity Lead, you'll run a lean, high-visibility, high-impact team focused on designing I&D resources and implementing solutions that build an environment where people can join, grow, and thrive professionally at Square regardless of their background. You'll create programs that increase the number of and improve hiring practices for underrepresented (UR) candidates in our talent pool, support the professional growth of UR Squares and Community members, increase external awareness of Square's I&D brand, and enable all Squares to productively participate in I&D initiatives.

Meaningful progress in building and retaining an inclusive and diverse workforce requires rolling up your sleeves and doing real work. This is not a figurehead role.

You are able to:

  • See the big picture in order to set, track, and achieve incremental goals in pursuit of an Inclusion & Diversity vision

  • Take big, innovative ideas, build actionable plans, and drive them to measurable results

  • Recognize opportunities that are high-impact and those that aren't, and prioritize accordingly

  • Get partners on board in order to drive change

  • Build data-based strategies and communicate those strategies internally and externally

  • Manage your direct team, while managing (and holding accountable) key partners to push initiatives forward

  • Build trust and rapport with employees across the company, ranging from Employee Resource Group leads to Senior Executives to entry-level employees

  • Be comfortable with public speaking, particularly on nuanced and sensitive subjects

You are responsible for:

  • I&D Strategy

    • Scale I&D programming globally, diagnosing needs of each international market

    • Partner with Communications to develop Square's external I&D brand

  • Program Development

    • Design and scope innovative hiring pilots for the Talent team focused on increasing underrepresented candidates in the top of funnel

    • Work with the Inclusion Program Manager and cross-functional partners to design remarkable solutions for our robust and growing Employee Resource Group program

  • Data Review and Reporting

    • Manage I&D reporting for each Executive and their direct reports, providing team-level consulting on I&D planning

    • Partner with People Analytics to conduct our annual Inclusion survey and analyze the findings to share out company-wide and inform I&D strategy

    • Demonstrate and report on ROI for all I&D programming

  • Consulting and Cross-Functional Partnership

    • Sit on committees such as Engineering Hiring Leads, Government Relations, Social Responsibility, etc. to represent the I&D perspective across the business

    • Work with individual Leads to enable team-level I&D initiatives and management

  • Company Leadership

    • Present quarterly in front of the company on I&D programming and demographic data

    • Represent the company at external events and, potentially, speaking engagements

  • People Leadership

    • Manage and develop a team of three: Inclusion Program Manager, Diversity Development Specialist, and Inclusion & Diversity Brand and Events Manager

Qualifications

  • Passion for inclusion, equity and diversity, and bringing thoughtful, innovative solutions to this work

  • Demonstrated excellence in strategic planning and project management

  • Knowledge of inclusion and diversity best practice

  • Experience designing and implementing inclusion and diversity initiatives
