As a Data Scientist at Square, you will lead projects that derive value from our unique, rich, and rapidly growing data. We partner with business, product, and operations teams to drive better decisions, automated and human, using sophisticated modeling and machine learning. Were a passionate team of hackers, statisticians, and optimizers who are resourceful in distilling questions, wrangling data, and driving decisions.
Within Seller, you will work in one of the following teams:
The Channel Optimization team grows Square’s product and services by applying data science to intelligently reach customers over the right channel, at right time with the right message and product. This team measures results by driving higher return on investment on our most important go-to-market initiatives across Marketing, Notifications, Account Management, Sales and more. Our team solves problems such as response modeling / spend optimization for new customers across media channels (direct mail, paid search), product recommendation for existing customers, and automated outreach to sellers through our account management teams.
Seller Modeling and Understanding:
The Seller Modeling and Understanding team provides Square with a better and deeper understanding of our sellers. We do this through the creation and maintenance of shared signals, models, and frameworks that help anyone at Square understand our sellers’ intent and value. We own widely used estimations such as lifetime value, churn, seasonality, and more. Our central value is to further understanding for our sellers so Square can easily and reliability make decisions based on our products, be they strategic or real-time.
Use and learn a diverse set of techniques spanning machine learning (including deep learning), causal inference, and other forms statistical modeling to solve import business and product problems
Drive cross functional data science projects from beginning to end: build relationships with partner teams, frame and structure questions, collect and analyze data, research, prototype, and build out data science pipelines and models, as well as summarize and present methodology and key insights
Work with engineers to implement data science solutions that operate effectively at scale
Collaborate with business leaders, subject matter experts, and decision makers to develop success criteria and optimize new products, features, policies, and models
Help build the next generation of data products at Square
2+ years industry experience in data science or machine learning-focused roles
An advanced degree (M.S., PhD.), preferably in Statistics, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, Economics, or a related technical field
A strong track record of performing data analysis using Python (numpy, pandas, scikit-learn, etc.) and SQL
Familiarity with Linux/OS X command line, version control software (git), and general software development
Experience using statistics and machine learning to solve complex business problems
The versatility and willingness to learn new technologies on the job
The ability to clearly communicate complex results to technical and non-technical audiences
