Job Description

Square has a mission to empower businesses of all sizes. In addition to our focus on empowering small sellers, we also work with many mid-sized and enterprise businesses in the UK. We also enable many of these businesses through provisioning our services via third party platforms such as Woocommerce, Wix, Appointedd and Vend.

We are looking for a leader to come in and to build out our sales engineering function in the UK, scaling over time to Europe. Reporting into market head, you will be the technical lead for Square in the UK, representing us in technical interactions with partners and customers. Your remit will involve building out a team that supports both the Sales and Account Management team and the Partnerships team across pre-sales, post sales and professional services. You will also work with the Product leads to provide technical assistance and advice with respect to the requirements of new products launching in market. You will become the go to person within the team on how Square’s products across SDKs, APIs and SAS work and how they are integrated with partners. You will represent Square in UK and European developer conferences and forums. You will create and present business arguments and proofs of concept (demos & prototypes) built on Square products and our API. You will serve as an evangelist of Square’s operational value, drive an implementation cadence on strategic deals and push the boundaries of what’s technically possible on our platform.

We are looking for an experienced individual who either has built and led a similar organisation in another B2B software company or is a hungry and talented individual, having excelled in a similar role as an individual contributor, is looking for an opportunity to move into a management position.

You will:

  • Quickly master the Square technical platform capabilities, becoming the subject expert in the UK

  • Help the Sales and Account Management teams bring clients live quickly by providing best in class technical advice and expertise

  • Assist the Product team with working with the US to bring products to market

  • Act as an outward-facing ambassador of Square’s technical capabilities, beliefs, brand and products

  • Over time, recruit and lead a team of sales engineering professionals

  • Provide technical consulting and propose feasible solutions according to products' terms and conditions

  • Solve merchant business issues with Square technology, brainstorming with the Sales & Partnerships teams on technical propositions to enhance Square’s offering

  • Propose, design, create, and present prototypes, demos, and proofs of concept to a wide variety of audiences, which include marketing professionals and engineers

  • Design, build, and support integrations for premier merchants and partners using Square’s platform APIs

  • Establish best practices to be shared with the Square Certified partner community

  • Attain quarterly and annual objectives assigned by management

  • Be the go-to expert for Sales team on what is technically possible with Square

  • Deliver trainings to our Sales and Account Management team to ensure they have a deep understanding on Square’s platform APIs

  • Roll up your sleeves as no task is too small


You have:

  • 8+ years of experience in a sales engineering or pre-sale role in the UK technology industry

  • An analytical and structured thought process with the ability to assess business opportunities and work on strategic initiatives

  • Excellent organisation, collaboration, written and verbal skills

  • A passion and knowledge about how new technologies can help better serve businesses of all sizes

  • A strong desire to work in a fast-paced, challenging and exciting environment

  • A BA/BS degree in computer science, maths, engineering or similar. Or equivalent practical experience
