At Square, Business Development is responsible for the end-to-end development and deployment of Squares Partnership strategy. This includes working closely with our product, platform, finance and legal teams to scope potential partnerships and negotiate contracts while engaging and developing deep relationships with external parties. This individual will lead cross-functional teams at Square to execute on these partnerships and achieve ongoing growth of these partnerships. A successful candidate will have considerable experience sourcing and managing external relationships, driving cross-functional teams to deliver on-scope and in-time, being comfortable dealing with uncertainty in a fast-paced environment, and consistently excceding expectations.
Develop and execute strategic and product Partnerships utilizing established, nascent and coming soon products within Squares portfolio
Work closely with product, engineering, partner management, account management, support, and sales teams to identify and engage potential Partners to enhance our product functionality and distribution
Own the Partner relationship from end-to-end, from initial scoping, to negotiations, and launch
Lead cross-functional teams to deploy partnerships, including creative, legal, finance, product, engineering, comms, support, etc.
Design and implement necessary analytics to measure and optimize Partnerships
At least 6-8 years of professional experience, including 3+ years in business development focused on technology partnerships
Proven ability to negotiate and close deals ranging from tactical, mid-size opportunities, to strategic, large and complex partners
Experience working with ecommerce platforms and/or marketplaces, fintech and/or payments companies
Strong analytical skills able to evaluate opportunities from strategic, brand, financial, and operational perspectives
Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external cross-functional teams to drive programs and/or products from conception to monetization
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to think and communicate creatively, thoughtfully, and with diverse technical and non-technical groups, spanning all organizational levels
Robust personal and professional network to accelerate potential opportunities
Highly entrepreneurial, work independently, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to thrive under minimal guidance
Strategic thinker and tactical executor able to shift from big picture to detailed operations on a dime
Strong team player with excellent track record of success in highly matrixed, fast-paced environments with changing priorities
Approaches all situations with an energetic, positive and can-do attitude
BA/BS required; MBA preferred
