Data Engineer, Marketing
- Full-time
Company Description
We believe the economy is better when everyone has access. When everyone has room to grow. No one should be left out because the cost is too great or the technology too complex. We started with a little white credit card reader but haven’t stopped there. We’re empowering the independent electrician to send invoices, setting up the favorite food truck with a delivery option, helping the ice cream shop pay its employees, and giving the burgeoning coffee chain capital for a second, third, and fourth location. We’re here to help sellers of all sizes start, run, and grow their business—and helping them grow their business is good business for everyone.
Job Description
As a Data Engineer on the Marketing Analytics team, you will join an organization whose mandate is to build and maintain foundational data infrastructure essential to driving Square’s revenue growth and accelerating seller acquisition. In this role, you will support both our Partner Marketing team, who brings sellers into our ecosystem of platform partners, as well as our Content team, who creates assets (e.g. articles, guides, e-books, case studies) that enable businesses to discover why Square is the right solution for their needs.
You will create measurement infrastructure for both teams by working closely with our marketing, analytics, partnerships, and business intelligence teams to build best-in-class data pipelines and processes that stitch together complex sets of data stores and drive large investment decisions. Your work will set the foundational KPIs against how we operate and optimize our business.
You Will:
Be the expert on end-to-end data flow for Partner Marketing and Content data
Understand business context and translate stakeholder needs into ETL and dashboard requirements
Design, build and maintain critical data pipelines and dashboards to ensure highly accurate and reliable business reporting
Monitor daily execution, diagnose and log issues, and fix business critical pipelines to ensure SLAs are met with internal stakeholders
Bridge gap between business requirements and ETL logic by troubleshooting data discrepancies and implementing scalable solutions
Make data model and ETL code improvements to improve pipeline efficiency and data quality
Own data import/export pipelines and incorporate into existing workflows to enable reporting and optimization efforts
Qualifications
You Have:
2-4 years experience in a data engineering, business intelligence, or technical data analytics role supporting Marketing organizations
Experience as an analyst or working with analysts on data model design, data logging, and data validation
Expertise in SQL, especially within cloud-based data warehouses like Snowflake, Google BigQuery, and Amazon Redshift

Excellent communication skills, particularly when explaining technical matters to less technical co-workers
Experience with Tableau and Looker data visualization technologies is a plus
BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or a related technical field
