Job Description

Our HR Generalist in Melbourne will support employees and management in Square’s APAC offices (Australia, Japan and China). The ideal candidate is one who is interested in making a significant impact in one of the most valued and visible groups in the company and excels in a fast-pace, high engagement environment with extraordinary desire to innovate. You will be on the front line working closely with managers to be able to provide hands-on and strategic input, insight, and advice with respect to employee relations, HR programs, conflict management, organizational development, compensation, training, and more. You’re comfortable speaking up and driving initiatives forward despite any unexpected roadblocks.

You will:

  • Provide employees and managers (leads) at the Melbourne, Tokyo and China locations with an available first point of contact for questions and guidance.

  • Escalate concerns beyond your scope and navigate employees and leads to right point of contact when that contact is not you.

  • Provide guidance and coaching to leads and employees for things such as: policies/guidelines/procedures interpretation, employee engagement, conflict resolution, People process training, employee relations, performance management, career development, talent assessment, workplace investigations, etc.

  • Work closely with managers and HRBPs for various site-specific leaders to support compensation planning.  May help analyze and review data with leads and HRBPs to facilitate conversations with HRBPs on issues that are site-specific.  

  • Ensure that all employee relations issues are properly identified, reported, investigated, and resolved - including working with the appropriate HRBP.  If necessary, call out site themes across all teams.

  • Partner with HRBPs to help develop and deliver unique and team-specific people solutions to teams in APAC.

  • Work closely with managers to create action plans from our internal employee survey.  Help analyze and review data with leads and HRBPs. Facilitate action planning and follow up as needed.

  • Participate in talent review and help identify and develop talent throughout the organization with respective HRBPs.

  • Support and proactively monitor performance management processes (annual/mid year review process) to identify areas for improvement and use findings to recommend improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness of processes & systems.  This could include scheduling and supporting specific events.

  • Assist with other special HR projects or initiatives as needed.

  • International and domestic travel is required.

Qualifications

You have:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience

  • 3-5 years of HR Generalist experience

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
