Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated credit professional to join Square’s world-class Risk organization to help understand and manage credit risk for sellers processing on Square. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of commercial credit and advanced financial statement analysis, and a passion for applying those skills in new and innovative ways to help Square grow our business while controlling non-fraud chargeback loss.


As a Senior Credit Analyst, you will manage risk for our highest-profile relationships, including enterprise sales and strategic accounts. You will contribute to high-level credit strategy, and work cross-functionally with data science, engineers, and product teams to inform the development and implementation of new tools and models. As a leader within Credit Risk, you will communicate the team’s value proposition internally and externally in order to achieve organizational and company objectives. Lastly, as a people manager, you will be passionate about developing and coaching team members in credit and project management skills.


You Will:

  • Conduct in-depth credit reviews of our most strategic and high-risk sellers, including preparing credit memorandums for approval by senior management

  • Lead due diligence calls with prospective and existing sellers to ensure that key risks are fully understood and mitigated

  • Contribute to continued development of credit policies and add structure to areas of ambiguity by drafting new policies or procedures

  • Proactively identify ways to improve our underwriting and operations; effectively prioritize and collaborate cross-functionally to execute on strategic initiatives

  • Work with senior management to identify highest-priority areas for Credit Risk and set quarterly and annual goals

  • Share learnings and expertise with team; drive accountability for team-level and individual results

  • Manage a team of Credit Specialists with an emphasis on clear goals, skill development, and career management



You Have:

  • 5-7 years of professional experience in commercial banking, credit, or payment industries

  • Exceptional underwriting and financial statement analysis skills

  • Comfort with diverse risk management tools and techniques; takes principled risks in testing and applying in practice with an eye towards standardization

  • Excellent professional communications skills; able to build relationships and influence others

  • Strong strategic mindset; ability to see big-picture and translate into actionable steps

  • Prioritizes key business needs based on quantifiable impact and resources; able to drive strategic initiatives from scoping to implementation with little to no oversight

  • Strong leadership ability. Has experience managing people, providing clear goals and feedback necessary to achieve individual and team objectives.

  • Data analysis skills and ability to translate findings into interpretable business case

  • BA/BS in a related field; MBA/Masters a plus
