Business Analyst - Growth Marketing

  • Full-time

Company Description

We believe the economy is better when everyone has access. When everyone has room to grow. No one should be left out because the cost is too great or the technology too complex. We started with a little white credit card reader but haven’t stopped there. We’re empowering the independent electrician to send invoices, setting up the favorite food truck with a delivery option, helping the ice cream shop pay its employees, and giving the burgeoning coffee chain capital for a second, third, and fourth location. We’re here to help sellers of all sizes start, run, and grow their business—and helping them grow their business is good business for everyone.

Job Description

The Automated Communications Team (ACT) builds tools that enable intelligent communication with Square’s customers through digital channels and go-to-market teams. As an interdisciplinary team, we provide platform services like notifications to power product functionality, operations, analytics and targeting tools to grow and retain customer bases, and automation / optimization of these activities through data science and machine learning. We play an important role in balancing two evergreen objectives: maintaining our customers' trust and growing the Square ecosystem.

Within ACT, the Messaging Analytics team uses Square’s vast collection of data to analyze and optimize Square’s cross-sell, upsell, engagement, and retention initiatives. We:

  • Analyze and monitor top-line performance for all growth marketing channels, and recommend actions to optimize impact and efficiency

  • Partner with Square’s product teams to set goals, and devise marketing tactics to achieve those goals

  • Size the potential impact of new growth channels and initiatives, and make recommendations to drive team-wide prioritization

  • Create self-serve analytics resources (e.g. dashboards, automated reports, analytics tables) to empower product teams with insights and visibility into category-level performance

ACT’s Business Analyst role is a hybrid of traditional jobs in strategy & planning, data analytics, and product marketing. You will need to synthesize insights through the vast amount of data captured by Square, and develop actionable strategies that will help grow our Sellers and their engagement with Square. You’ll be expected to collaborate closely with key stakeholders and senior management, and deliverables will be in the form of driving execution on your strategic recommendations through project management.

You will:

  • Develop & deliver performance analysis and program recommendations for product marketers and GMs

  • Define channel and category KPIs and goals, and develop processes to review and take action to improve performance. Conduct deep-dive analyses into channel trends and performance.

  • Support team-wide prioritization and planning through impact tracking, opportunity sizing, and goal setting.

  • Interact regularly with the stakeholders across all areas of the company

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in a variety of strategic, analytical and operational roles: you thrive on combining rigorous data-driven analysis, strong business intuition and judgment, and an ability to work well across a variety of teams to solve complex problems, and have done so at a fast-growing technology company. You’ve likely held roles in consulting, finance, or business operations.

  • Impact Orientation: Strong business acumen, with the ability to translate quantitative data into actionable business insights and recommendations. Ability to communicate complex data concepts and reasoning in ways that product teams, senior management, and the wider organization will understand.

  • Data Fluency: You have experience manipulating and extracting insights from large datasets, and using data to make recommendations and decisions. You have extensive experience with financial modeling and opportunity sizing, and have used database languages (e.g. SQL, BigQuery) and visualization tools (e.g. Looker, Tableau) to support your analyses and recommendations.

  • Ability to Influence: Experience managing cross-functional projects from start to finish and a track record of successfully building working relationships and influencing business partners. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Efficiency: Excellent organizational and prioritization skills as demonstrated by experience autonomously driving multiple, competing projects under deadline pressure

Enthusiasm: you’re passionate about Square’s mission and excited to bring our products to more businesses
