Company Description

THIS IS A CONTRACT ROLE

At Square, we believe everyone should be able to participate and thrive in the economy, so we’re building tools that make commerce easier and more accessible to all. We began with a little white credit card reader but haven’t stopped there. Caviar is part of Square’s full suite of tools for businesses, enabling restaurants across the country to reach more customers, grow their sales, and expand their reach. And at the same time, Caviar is primarily a consumer facing brand—as you probably know from ordering tacos from your couch—that’s all about getting people the food they want, without hassle. We're looking for exceptionally talented individuals who want to learn and grow with the company. And, you know, write for a really fun brand.

Job Description

This is a junior copywriter role with a big runway for growth. Ideally, you’ll have been in a position at an advertising or social agency, or in-house for a food or lifestyle brand for ~two years. Your voice should come through as relatable, casual, and fun. Basically, you should be able to write like you talk. A good fit will be down to work hard on last-minute projects and come up with lots of creative options in the process. You’ll need to be comfortable working in a data-driven, cross-functional organization, and thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

As a copywriter for Caviar, it’ll be your job to get people excited about the brand and help them understand how our products work. You’ll be part of the Caviar Marketing team, reporting to the lead writer (hi) and partner closely with our design, product, marketing, and restaurant teams to create really cool work.

You Will:

  • Develop and write acquisition and retention campaigns for Caviar

  • Create concepts that have the legs for larger marketing campaigns

  • Leverage customer and data insights to inspire creative concepts

  • Collaborate with a talented group of designers, editors, producers, product managers, and marketers

  • Collaborate across the Square organization to ensure a consistent, integrated customer experience

Qualifications

You Have:

  • B.A. degree

  • 2+ years experience in a creative role

  • A portfolio to include with your resume and cover letter

  • Excellent grammar, writing, and editorial skills—you have kind of a weird passion for language and love to sweat the small stuff

  • The ability to explain complicated products and processes in simple, human ways to both businesses and consumers

  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle several projects at once

  • A positive attitude and a manageable ego with the ability to present and defend your work when you really believe in it

  • An interest in working with data to make smart, hardworking creative

  • Creative flexibility—you can flex your writing and adjust your language and tone based on your audience

  • Ability to push a brand forward with fresh, evolving, creative ideas
