Our portfolio of hardware products is growing quickly and now includes three different readers, Square Stand, Square Terminal, and Square Register. Our latest products are all-in-one devices (i.e., no phone or tablet required) built from the ground up to include more powerful features, process transactions faster, and bring greater reliability and ease of use through a tighter integration between hardware, software and our payments platform. Job Description

As a senior hardware product manager at Square you are responsible for the customer visible product roadmap, overall business results, and end customer success of one of our product families. You will identify new product opportunities, translate those opportunities into product requirements and work with a best in class design, engineering, and manufacturing team to turn those ideas into products and new features. You will be responsible for continuously identifying and executing on ways to improve your product through a deep understanding of our customers, competitors and the changing landscape we operate in. Finally, you will partner with product marketing to help ensure your product is getting to the right customers.

More specifically you will - 

  • Develop a clear understanding and be able to articulate who is deciding to use your product, why they selected it, what gaps it has and what aspects are most important to your users through regular conversations with our sellers. 

  • Maintain a prioritized customer touching feature / product roadmap for the next 12 months with clear product requirements and business justification for each element on the roadmap. 

  • Be responsible for clear communication of the roadmap features into JIRAs / annual plan / quarterly plans for relevant executing teams and participate in the prioritization sessions for the executing teams to provide clarity on ask and context on priority and impact. 

  • Have a clear understanding of the impact of your product to the main customer segments and the business impact of your product to Square including overall product P&L, unit economics, and payback.  

  • Have a high-level understanding of technical and operational aspects of the product that need to be considered as context or inputs into product decisions. 

  • Be the first line of triage for new field product issues. Investigate new field issues to provide the relevant technical teams with a place to start and a sense of importance / urgency. 

  • Be the primary point of contact for other product teams, support, sales for all aspects of product features and troubleshooting.

  • Provide customer value and business value context for sprint planning, work prioritization and financial / business / operational decisions. 

  • Understand the need for, design and lead product alpha and betas programs. 

  • Be the cross-functional aggregator / decision driver when a cross-functional decision’s primary impact is to the business performance or customer experience of a product.

Qualifications

You have -

  • 5+ years of product management experience. Past hardware product management experience a strong plus. 

  • Experience delivering products / features which have a high degree of cross-functional complexity and integration. 

  • A track record of shipping and iterating on successful consumer or small business products. 

  • Great interpersonal, communication, organizational, analytical skills. A proven ability to influence.  

  • A passion for Square’s mission of economic empowerment and well designed hardware products.
