Company Description

When we launched the little white reader, we invented mobile, ubiquitous payments and enabled anyone to start, run, and grow a business. Ten years and billions of transactions later we’re reimagining commerce for businesses of all types and sizes—we’re enabling the independent electrician to send invoices, helping the beauty salon pay its employees, and giving the burgeoning coffee chain capital for a second, third, and fourth location. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

As the Design Lead for Merchant Risk Experience, you will manage a team that builds products and experiences to help merchants who are at risk for financial loss, one of the most challenging aspects of running a business. For example, merchants may be victims of fraud or facing payment disputes, and in many cases, they're encountering this type risk for the first time. As the Design Manager, you will build clear and supportive experiences to guide a business through these challenges, while ensuring they understand the process and are protected from losing money wherever possible. You will lead a team of designers to help guide the merchant experience across all risk touch points.

Design has been central to our product development process from the very beginning: we employ design thinking to build easy-to-use tools that help our merchants better run their businesses. As a Design Lead, you will lead research, direct and contribute to visual and interaction design, and collaborate with team leads across Square.

You will:

  • Shape the vision for a set of products and experiences that guide customers through some of the most challenging aspects of running a business.
  • Work with Engineering, Product, Copy, Analytics, and Marketing to establish goals, interactions and functionalities of the merchant risk experience.
  • Conduct user research for the needs of the product by meeting with merchants and gaining first-hand experience.
  • Lead a team of Product Designers and a Product Writer in advancing their careers and delivering on goals across all merchant risk experiences.
