Job Description

Square Payroll has automated one of the most complex administrative aspects of running a business by making our customers payroll tax filings happen seamlessly. We are helping businesses hire, retain and pay great talent so they can grow their business. We are looking for an experienced Tax Operations team lead who will be responsible for ensuring we complete filing and payments timely and accurately for our customers. This leader will play an integral part of Square Payrolls success by scaling the tax team, driving tax planning and proactively delivering an outstanding product to our customers.

You will:

  • Lead payroll tax operations, ensuring customer tax payments and filings are made efficiently, accurately and on-time
  • Design, implement and document procedures that are scalable in an evolving payroll operations environment and ensure consistently accurate results
  • Identify, document, and solve operational problems arising as a result of product bugs and limitations or customer error
  • Design and implement new features and internal tools that will drive a scalable tax operations strategy through automation
  • Train and mentor team members to pass on your deep industry knowledge of tax
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to create the best end-to-end product experience for our customers

Qualifications

You have:

  • 5+ years working in Tax or Finance and 2+ years as a Tax Manager or Finance Manager
  • A Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field 
  • Experience working in payroll tax a plus
  • Critical thinking, strong decision making abilities and familiarity in scaling a tax operations team
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, innovative and ever-changing dynamic environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills & strong attention to detail
  • Passion for building tools and ensuring our customers have the best experience  
  • Fast learner who will be able to become a subject matter expert in payroll in a short time
  • Experience leading a growing team
