Job Description

We are excited by builders passionate about making the Square Payment Platform the best platform for financial services. The Payment Platform powers all money movement for Square, allowing product teams to focus on remarkable experiences. We believe a general purpose platform of composable building blocks will accelerate product delivery. This is how we empower Square and 3rd-party developers to innovative on behalf of our sellers.

As a product manager, Payment Platform, you will lead the direction of the Square Payment Platform by setting vision/strategy and partnering with the engineering manager of your sprint team to drive execution. Our payment platform spans identity, payment acceptance, banking services, and ML and data products—from foundational services to public APIs and SDKs. You'll advocate for the voice of our sellers and developers to deliver a reliable, scalable, and secure platform that makes Square go faster.

You will:

  • Identify market opportunities, build business cases and determine product strategy

  • Run your product like a business: manage the entire product life cycle from ideation, to planning and execution

  • Understand the jobs to be done for the platform, synthesize those needs to shape the product roadmap, and establish key metrics

  • Hypothesize, measure, and learn. Continuously test and use insights to inform decisions

  • Collaborate with engineers, product marketers and designers to build the product

  • Communicate progress on initiatives to stakeholders, partners and internal teams

  • Represent the team with partners and senior company leaders


You have:

  • 5+ years of product management experience or equivalent

  • Deep understanding and empathy for our customers

  • Passion for our purpose of economic employment and innovation on behalf of our sellers and developers 

  • Ability to think strategically and develop a long-term view of where the Square Payment Platform is heading

  • Expertise launching and scaling platform products with public APIs, SDKs, or toolkits and maintaining them across multiple versions

  • Desire to lead, the ability to guide product strategy and work well with senior engineers and designers

  • Great relationship-building  skills that shine when you’re talking with a customer or engaging a diverse audience

  • Natural curiosity, obsession with the details, desire to build the right thing

  • Technical background and passion for new technology

  • An analytical and metrics-driven work style that leverages data to make informed decisions
