Job Description

We've recently introduced Cash App Investing and now you can instantly buy stock in your favorite companies with as little as $1 using our free fractional trading feature! With that in mind, we're looking for our first in-house Financial & Operations Principal (FinOp). This hire will be an integral part of our growing broker-dealer subsidiary, Cash App Investing LLC located in Portland Oregon. This role is responsible for ensuring that Cash App Investing activity is appropriately captured and accounted for in our financial statements & will play an important role in ensuring investor protection by being responsible for the broker-dealer’s compliance with applicable net capital, record keeping, and other financial and operational rules under guidelines determined by the SEC and FINRA. The ideal candidate will be highly analytical, able to work in a collaborative and fast-paced environment and is open to required travel between our other Cash App office locations.

You will:

  • Own the overall financial operations of the broker-dealer in close partnership with the CEO.

  • Be responsible for final preparation, approval and responsibility for accurate financial reports submitted to securities regulators.

  • Be responsible for final preparation of financial reports and supervise individuals assisting with the preparation of such reports.

  • Serve as one of the key points of contact for the broker-dealer with respect to financial operations. 

  • Partner with internal Operations, Reconciliation, Engineering, and Compliance teams in identifying and resolving broker-dealer related financial risk, control and compliance related matters.

  • Prepare and file in a timely and accurate manner audited financial statements in accordance with GAAP and FINRA / SEC reporting rules and regulations.

  • Supervise responsibility for, individuals who are involved in the maintenance of the member’s books and records from which such reports are derived.

  • Supervise performance of the member’s responsibilities under all financial responsibility rules promulgated pursuant to the provisions of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 (Exchange Act).

  • Supervise and manage the annual registration renewal process for FINRA and various states.

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly FOCUS and applicable filings.

  • Prepare Forms SIPC‐6 and SIPC‐7, and ensure payment of applicable fees to SIPC.

  • Own the annual audit process, preparation of Form X‐17a‐5, and primary liaison with external auditors in close partnership with the CEO.

  • Gathering, maintaining and preparing revenue recognition documentation for all broker‐dealer engagements.

  • Monitoring FINRA Gateway CRD balances; financial compliance notices, examinations and inquiries.  

  • Monitoring firm net capital, preparing net capital forecasts and ensuring the broker-dealer is in net capital compliance at all times.

  • Special projects, as directed, including assisting with due diligence requests or accounting research on potential transactions.

  • Assisting with the preparation of financial statements, footnotes and report formatting for parent company and SEC reporting needs.

  • Maintaining current knowledge in FinOp industry rules and regulations and best practices in compliance.

  • Any other matter involving the financial and operational management of the member.

Qualifications

 

  • Knowledge of GAAP and [5]+ years relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience.

  • 8+ years minimum of FinOp experience & 10-15 years of total career experience. 

  • FINRA Licenses: Series 27, Series 7, and Series 24 required, will consider Series 28.

  • Experience working as a FinOp with a Full Carrying or Self-Clearing Broker-Dealer is preferred.

  • SEC/FINRA regulatory knowledge and reporting requirements.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Technical knowledge and practical knowledge of revenue recognition standards ASC 605 and ASC 606 a plus.

  • Tech savvy, strong at MS Office, G Suite and SQL experience a plus.

  • Experience with Xero, Oracle R12 or Oracle Cloud accounting software preferred.
