Job Description
The International Accountant will be a key addition to the finance organization as Square grows around the world. This position is based at our new office in Oakland, CA. The successful candidate provides accounting and financial oversight for Square’s international entities, and is primarily responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the financial records and ensures that financial close and reporting processes are consistent with Corporate. This candidate will assist in the month-end close process, prepare various monthly reports, perform reconciliations and research as needed, analyze individual country financial data and assist with ad hoc projects as needed. The ideal candidate will have three to five years’ experience and be exceptionally organized, resourceful and detail-oriented.
You will:
Own specific accounting processes for international subsidiaries
Prepare journal entries, month end reconciliations and flux analysis
Provide updates and analyses for international entities during close meetings
Assist with international statutory audits and tax returns and facilitate requests and inquiries from external auditors
Assist in quarterly and annual US auditor reviews with regards to international accounts, support and reconciliations
Reconcile intercompany balances and establish process for current and future state intercompany transactions
Prepare intercompany invoices and ensure intercompany agreements’ terms and settlements are paid and current
Ensure proper documentation to support tax team with indirect tax payments or refunds
Prepare, maintain and reconcile monthly foreign exchange transactions and related gains/losses
Research international accounting guidance and develop policies and procedures for accounting treatments (i.e. ASC 830 FX Accounting)
Work closely with Accounting, Tax , Counsel and Treasury internal Square teams to ensure day-to-day international operational needs are met, and coordinate with our external accounting BPO in Dublin Ireland
Drive initiatives for global process alignment across international entities and implement enhancements and improvements as needed
Implement processes and document controls to ensure SOX compliant internal control environment
Perform other duties and ad hoc requests as needed
Qualifications
You have:

The candidate must be able to work in a collaborative environment. Strong communication skills are required. Ideal candidate will be a process-oriented individual who is also flexible enough to thrive in a fast growing environment. Candidates must enjoy getting their hands dirty and be flexible as needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred
3-5 years experience in accounting, some international accounting and industry experience desirable
Strong technical expertise of GAAP (U.S. and international). IFRS knowledge is a plus
Experience with global entity structures and multi-country/currency environment
Strong excel skills and experience with major ERP systems (Oracle/Hyperion preferred).
Ability to analyze financial statements/schedules and write commentary to explain results/variances in a concise, clear manner
Strong analytical and creative problem solving skills, ability to link information together, and solution oriented individual
Demonstrated proficiency in accounting research
Ability to work well with people at various levels (including non-financial people)
Scale and process-oriented with sound judgment, high attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
Efficiency and improvement focussed
