Job Description

The Orders team is focused on evolving Square’s Order Management System which powers our Point of Sale products and is also made available to third party developers via our Connect APIs. Our highly available service is involved in the complete order lifecycle: placement, payment, fulfillment and analytics & reporting.

As a software engineer on the Orders team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the Order Management System. You will be deeply involved in the technical details of building highly available and reliable services, while also working with product teams to enable Square to rapidly build new capabilities for our merchants and buyers all over the world.

You will:

  • Design and develop highly available, clustered services.

  • Work with Square internal teams and third party developers to ensure that the Order Management System supports their existing and future feature and analytics & reporting needs.

  • Support millions of Square customers through elegant interfaces on the web, Android, and iOS.


You have:

  • Experience in SQL database development, relational data modeling and performance tuning of SQL queries

  • Experience with OLTP and OLAP systems

  • Experience with Web Service concepts

  • Innate curiosity and a desire to explore solutions in a small, highly focused team.

  • Understanding and interest in creating highly available, scalable, low-latency, global systems.

  • Track record of pursuing self directed side projects, research, or open source projects.
