Senior Product Designer, Merchant Risk Experience

  • Full-time
  • Alternate Location: New York, United States

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

**For consideration, please submit a link to your portfolio.**

As a senior level designer for the Merchant Risk Experience team, you will lead design efforts to help merchants who are at risk for financial loss—one of the most challenging aspects of running a business. For example, merchants may be victims of fraud or facing payment disputes, and in many cases, they're encountering this type of risk for the first time. You will build clear and supportive experiences to guide merchants through these challenges, while ensuring they understand the process and are protected from losing money wherever possible. Design has been central to our product development process from the very beginning: we employ design thinking to build easy-to-use tools that help our merchants better run their businesses. You will lead research, direct and contribute to visual and interaction design, and work with team leads across Square.

You will:

  • Shape the vision for a set of products and experiences that guide our merchants through some of the most challenging aspects of running a business
  • Work with Engineering, Product, Copy, Analytics, and Marketing to establish goals, interactions and functionalities of the merchant risk experience
  • Conduct user research for the needs of the product by meeting with merchants and gaining first-hand experience

Qualifications

You have:

  • 7+ years of relevant professional experience
  • A portfolio of work that expresses your direct responsibility for the success of consumer-facing product design
  • Proven ability to turn complex problems into simple and engaging customer experiences
  • Expertise in developing common UX deliverables to aid in design discovery and research—including customer journeys, information architecture, interaction models and prototypes for products and/or services
  • Natural curiosity and the ability to form ideas and present them to your cross-functional team to determine strategy and roadmaps
  • Experience questioning and working with leadership peers to bring conversations to next steps
Even better:
  • Experience conducting customer research—including surveys, usability studies, and multivariate testing
  • Experience utilizing prototyping to collect customer feedback and iterating on design concepts
