Senior Software Engineer (Fullstack/Frontend), Risk

  • Full-time

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a mobile phone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Capital, Square Terminal, Square Payroll, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

**Open to remote

A payment dispute is the right given to a cardholder to challenge a payment they feel is unauthorized or illegitimate. While there are good reasons for cardholders to initiate disputes, they can be some of the most painful experiences that small business owners face, no matter who they use to process their payments. The disputes arbitration process is months long, and in the end, business owners may discover they are on the hook for the payment, if it wasn’t their fault.

The Disputes team is here to help business owners prevent, win, and manage their disputes. Our small, collaborative team strives to make the disputes process as painless as possible, or even to avoid it entirely!

You will:

  • Develop great user experiences in web and mobile applications
  • Split your time between working on the frontend of our seller risk tools and our existing backend APIs and services
  • Work with our product, design, analytics, data science, and operations teams to develop new features and improve existing products
  • Use your technical expertise to mentor other engineers on the team, raising the bar of technical execution

Qualifications

You have:

  • 5+ years industry experience
  • A interest in developing frontend applications (experience with Ember is a bonus)
  • Learn and work across our team’s entire tech stack
  • Passion for building products that are beautiful outside and inside – from their user experience to their elegant design
  • A sense of customer empathy and product direction
  • The desire to work collaboratively, whether in person, over video, or asynchronously through online tools

Even better:

  • A fondness for pair programming
  • Experience with Android or iOS development
