Job Description

The global Square Risk team works to protect Square, Square sellers, and enable safe growth across our ecosystem. We are looking for a Risk Operations Supervisor to join our Australian Risk Operations team. Supervising a small team of Risk Specialists, you will ensure your team is meeting Square Australia’s operational expectations around identified payment risks, and develop longer term strategies to further improve our effectiveness. You may have an interest in the areas of fraud investigation and the financial payments industry, and are curious about how new world events and scenarios impact upon risk. You will work with global and local Square teams including Compliance and Customer Success, and will also lead projects in payment recovery policy, scoping manual versus automated work and streamlining operational processes.

You will:

  • Manage a team of 2-3 Risk Specialists including performance management and shaping team vision.

  • Participate in recruiting efforts to bring in top quality candidates to fill essential roles.

  • Review risk operational metrics to monitor the performance of the team and on an ongoing basis.

  • Identify gaps in current systems, policies, products and strategies and take actions to mitigate risks with guidance from the Australia Lead, Risk.

  • Build relationships across Risk and Square teams including Sales, Customer Success, Product, Compliance and Dispute teams.

  • Work on multiple  projects to improve risk strategy systems and tools.

  • Recommend enhancements and process improvements based on assessment of existing ways of working.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.

  • The ability to synthesise information and make recommendations on a course of action.

  • A creative and eager mindset, with a bias towards action and finding solutions.

  • The ability to interpret ambiguous situations, and make decisions under pressure.

  • Experience working on an operationally focused team.

  • Experience managing a team, either formally or informally.

  • Understanding of the online payments landscape across all participants: issuer, merchant, acquirer and network.

  • Optional:

  • 2 or more years’ risk experience including mitigating online fraud, such as account takeover, phishing and online card testing.

  • Experience in card issuer disputes, and card transaction monitoring.

  • Experience in recovery including recovery workflow and bankruptcies/liquidations knowledge

  • Experience with SQL, Looker or similar business intelligence software/big data analytics platforms.
