Job Description

The Measurement Data Science team is a team of data science and machine learning practitioners aimed at providing Square with quantification and understanding of intent, behavior, value, and the potentially complicated ways in which they all interrelate. We leverage data and automation to help Square solve impactful business, marketing, and finance problems such as marketing performance, financial forecasting, attribution modeling, media mix modeling, value measurement, and more. We have a large seat at the table alongside other key business functions in helping Square make strategic decisions around the output and outcome of these solutions. Measure Data Science is situated within the Bureau Automation organization, a cross-functional team spanning data science, engineering and analytics. Bureau Automation facilitates and measures the unified customer journey, intelligently empowering customers through Square's ecosystem of products.

You will:

  • Lead several data scientists and machine learning engineers to solve impactful problems in the domains of marketing and finance

  • Leverage your expertise to drive Square’s understanding and evaluation of critical strategic areas such as marketing performance, financial forecasting, attribution modeling, media mix modeling, value measurement, and more

  • Work jointly with Marketing, Finance, and other business functions across the company to provide ML-driven solutions

  • Dive in with your team to provide coaching, feedback, and hands-on technical guidance as needed

  • Lead and guide your team to effectively manage and communicate their work with stakeholders and senior leadership on a regular basis

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest state-of-the-art techniques in machine learning and foster a culture of learning within the organization


You have:

  • 5+ years of experience with a proven track record of solving high impact marketing and business problems with ML and data science

  • 2+ years experience in people management with a track record of building high-performance teams and growing talent

  • Deep experience with problems in the marketing ML space such as marketing attribution, media mix modeling, incrementality, customer value modeling, and more

  • Technical expertise with a range of statistical and machine learning techniques across supervised and unsupervised learning including (but not limited to) regression, clustering, decision tree, gradient boosted trees, time series forecasting, model explainability, and more

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills while working with technical and non-technical audiences

  • An ability to translate business objectives and customer needs into analytical solutions and technical roadmaps

  • An advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Math, Statistics, or a related technical field
